It's Friday!!! You know what that means, after another tough slug of a week at work, one more chore before you get to go home and drink yourself silly...
As we know falcon is not going to exist beyond 2016...Many of us own falcons (or a derivative model) and over the many years we have all been able to sell our old falcons and buy / upgrade to a newer falcon.. Generally the large family size remained pretty much the same, it slowly became more powerful and fuel efficient, more comfortable, better equipped,it was always a rugged reliable car... The look was sometimes controversial and some models classic, but it was generally the same formula which evolved and met our needs. Cheap parts, plenty of mod shops and upgrades.. Proud community of enthusiasts But post 2016 it won't exist.. So where you going after falcon retires? What you going to drive and be passionate about? Surely you can't hang onto that b series or fg forever... The e series are already getting long in the tooth and almost impossible to find a decent one..this will no doubt happen to b series and fg too.. so we are gonna have to cut and run / upgrade sooner than later to something that is not falcon. But upgrade to what? What you going to drive post 2016? How will it meet your needs like the falcon has for the past 5-50 years.. (Depending on your age) |

We'll always have a nice family car, small SUV whatever. My cars pretty much for me and seldom has anyone else in it, so blue oval, V8, rear wheel drive....
No question, it'll be a Mustang. And it will be modified.

Mondeo /fusion.
I don't care which wheels drive the car and it will have more than enough power to cart the family around plus I think it looks pretty nice. Maybe I'm getting old |

Mondeo.
I'll also look at Focus, Kuga and/or Edge as I think these are pretty cool cars too, but the new Mondeo is the front runner to be my next daily driver. Unless I win lotto, in which case I'll look at the premium Euro brands, my next car is definitely going to be a Ford.

This is a tough question for me, as I don't like many new cars at all.
With every new release they do things that I don't like and take something away from the driving experience. They're too sterile. Falcon died post 2002 IMO. I'll be growing my AU fleet and keeping them going for as long as I can. I don't put a lot of k's on my cars so they should last a long time However wifey does, so will need to get her another car to rack up the k's. Her current BMW has 280,000+ k's and it's still doing well. She likes it, so can still keep it running another few years. We're both middle aged, so we'll still need cars for another ~30yrs or so. Will we still want our current cars as dailys in 30yrs, I don't know. I may not even want them in 10yrs? I guess an option at some point will be to own some mushy sterile thing that drives almost by itself. The Mustang is maybe an option once it's 5+ yrs old and down to sensible money. They look the goods, and with a V8 they should tootle along ok. I'm guessing it's as sterile as the next late model car though. I'd like an E39 M5 too, but that's not exactly moving forward age wise. Everything else is just meh, oh the pain. I reckon I can keep my AU's and the E36 going another 30 years. So my answer is, Falcon, with a hint of BMW...

Don't like driving FWD cars, can't afford Audi's and such so probably go for AWD like a grey import late model Evo.

Finally, a decent topic without any bias.
I would say many will stick with the B and F series for a while yet (albeit all Falcons as daily drivers) , but then? Who knows what will be around in 20 years time? |

Same as now. Any mid/large SUV that has a bit of poke and can carry the family+dog. If/when Ford releases something like that, I'll be all over it (like the Turbo Territory which was/is a brilliant SUV).
That being said, I'll be driving my T-Series Falcon till I'm no longer able. Can take the man out of a Ford, but can't take the Ford out of the man. Good post OP.

I see a few people are waiting on the Mustang. Anyone planning on the GT350? (If it has the speculated 600HP 5.2L flat-plane crank V8 with 8,000rpm redline).

Guys/Gals driving b-series or FG's now cant go backwards so they are going to have to buy a non ford car next. Probably within 5 years they will be out of a falcon for good..
Guys driving e-series have it a little easier, as there is a natural progression for them to upgrade to a b series first then FG then have to worry about a non-falcon car. Probably 10-15 years off judging by how long they keep their cars. |

Why not ?
Not everyone has to keep up with what's parked in the rest of the street.

Why will FG owners have to buy a non Ford car next? I think Fords range of product will be very good post 2016. As a Falcon owner I would love for Falcon to continue but you can't always get what you want.
