Mustang lost the plot about this year with their styling, and the 90's puke.

I thought only the 1971 Boss and 1972 HO Mustangs had Ram Air.

I am biased, 1969 Fastback then 1970 then the early ones. After the 1970 model they became butt ugly.......

Drop its bum and a decent set of wheels would make a world of difference.

I don't mind it.

That's a real '70's stance, I remember seeing heaps of young dudes cars low in the front and jacked up at the back. It was a thing back then.

I remember using extended rear shackels to achieve the high lift at the back before air shockers came on the market that I purchased from Greame Withers speed shop that was in Cheltenham.

As for ford having to come up with the phase 2 and phase 3 to combat the 327 and the 350 Manaro my theory is it was the six pack utes banging around Mullala Raceway under the lap record and timed by a farmer who reported to ford that forced fords hand with the phase 2 and 3.

Perhaps when the six pack ute story is told this will come to light.

Not a huge fan of the 73, the 71-2 looked much better in the front end. Notice the headlight bezels are different in the 73, as are the front guards, bumper and grille. Minor differences but they are there.

Here is a better pic of a 71-2 model. Stunning cars in Mach 1 form, pics do not do them justice.

I'll go along with that. Of course if I had the $ I'd have a 1970 Boss 429.
It appears to me that Dodge have had a close look at the 69/70 Mustang when putting together the HellCat Supercharged 6.2L.
Rear quarter is very close to a 70 Fastback, although nothing has the stance of a Mustang.

Looks like an XB...

Strange that XB GTs are not as unpopular as that. But I guess they are unpopular compared to other GTs

But I agree, looks crap compared to a 69 version

Nice stance on your Mustang Bugger. Those rims called Indy or something? Not many cars look so good with those rims and white writing, but the stangs do. If I had an onyx black XB coupe, I`d be putting your wheels on it in a heart beat.

Yep, no doubt the XB was based on this.

And to think some people think the new FGX Falcon is the first Falcon that doesn't look "Australian". Yeah right.

I`ve seen a couple different American models that seem to have XB coupe genes. Was told when I purchased my coupe in the 90`s that it was based on the Torino. I didnt know what a Torino was at the time, I thought the guy must have been smoking cones. Have read something similar about XB origins on here somewhere.

I've seen the same thing in the States, the 71-73 Mustangs are not nearly as popular as the earlier Mustangs which to me is a bit strange considering the 1971 Boss 351 Mustang was probably the fastest one out of the box, including the big blocks!

Cheers Mick

That is right, notice the outer door handles are very similar to the XB handles. I might be wrong, but I think the hood scoop vents are directly interchangeable with XB/XC. The door mirrors might be the same or very similar also.

These cars became big as did most muscle cars in the early 70's. If people stopped comparing them to older Mustangs and see them in their own light they would be appreciated a bit more. The Boss 351's were animals and destroyed most big blocks. Sometimes I think if it had another badge on it it would be more desirable.

The 71 "R" code Boss 351's are very popular Mick, due to their rarity. A high quality one in the States will set you back $60k - $80k. Also the 71 "J" code 429's are similarly expensive.

Ford wouldnt be silly enough to try and push a 4cyl mustang (a sales boom like the 4cyl fg), would they?or silly enough to write "ground speed" on the speedo face, or use chinese electronics in the interior would they?maybe they can delay the advertising and pricing for as long as possible so that people will loose interest and go buy a wrx or evo type thingy instead? i hope this new mustang is not murdered by the bean counters, history should teach ford(ie should never repeat) 4cyl commodore,au series 1 grille(edsel), and lets not forget the 427 sohc was murdered by ford bean counters, I rest my case!
