My finance company needs Comprehensive Insurance on the FG X XR8 I have on order, but none of the insurers seem to have the FG X in their system at this stage.
Considering many of you have ordered cars before they were launched, how do I go about getting insurance? I want to shop around, but it's a bit hard when the details aren't in the system. Do I just have to wait until the car is launched and they get around to adding them into their system? Thanks for helping out a new car noob!

Some mobs may already have the car in the system.
I know for sure the only mob I would steer clear of regarding insurance and brand new cars is RACQ. They dont have my wife's car in their system so they lost us.

Haven't even looked into it, defiantly something I need to look into in the not to distant future but I have a little time up my sleeve considering it's going to be a Februrary or March delivery. Yours is a December delivery isn't it? I have the luxury of waiting til after the official release so hopefully everyone is up to speed! Would love to hear recommendations though. I have had my BF XR6T insured with just car since I bought it new in 2006 and have my FG F6 insured with them also. Still paying through the nose due to age and never had a claim (touch wood) and turn 31 this month.

I vaguely remember my sister dealing with a car insurance company back in the late eighties...around the time the VL Commodore came out. She had been to the "pre-release" party the local dealer put on where they had a couple of the "revolutionary" new Commodores with the excellent Nissan engine in them, and she ordered one straight away after a test drive.
I believe it was RACQ who said that "no such model exists" when they were trying to organise insurance on it before it arrived, and by that stage the TV's were full of advertising for the new model. So delays and oddities are certainly nothing new. Last edited by 2011G6E; 06-11-2014 at 02:30 PM. |

Your financier wont need insurance till the vehicle is ready to be settled.

Just called youi can't even get a quote yet, to them no such vehicle exists it will probably only be after the official release that they get the vehicle details.

But it would be good to have it quoted before the day before.

Insurance companies can give you a quote without the car being on the system, but if they actually will, thats another story.
All cars are put into certain category’s and each category is given a code. The insurance company will just need the cat code of the vehicle, usually someone in the insurance company will have this info and the system will work out a premium based on the postcode and other questions asked. As I said it is possible, but most insurance company may not want to do this. When I started in insurance, some guy rang for a quote on a 300c, he was getting one of the first in Aus and it was not on the system. Was able to get the cat code and create a quote. Put the description of the car in manually. |

None of the companies that I have either checked on line or rung in person have it yet either. Just have to wait until Ford release the codes to the insurers I guess.

I pay just over $500 for my XR50. NRMA & AAMI were about $30 cheaper but I don't like either of them.
