Default Old man's ED starter not engaging

There's a problem with the old man's ED. Whe the key is put to start, there's nothing, no clicks from the starter solenoid or relay, but the fuel pump is priming as it should. Its intermittent, and sometimes if you just hold it at start for a while, she'll spring into life. I initially was thinking key barrel, but it could also be a dud starter relay or inhibitor switch. Anyone else ever had this problem and know what's the go? Cheers for any help guys.

hmmm... dont think its the starter itself, relay like u say or bad wiring/grounding. I know i got a bad starter when u turn the key and it grates the plunger gear on the flywheel! Sounds like a piston going bang!

Suggest a 12 volt test lamp or LED to check for power at the relay etc. Maybe just push a safety pin into the wires. Also the EA has a push on clip connector to the starter solenoid which may need cleaning.

is the battery flat?, because there could be enough charge to engage the fuel pump, and accessories, but does not have enough volts to start the car

Battery and its connections are 100%. Next time we get issues we'll swap around some relays and see if that's the problem, that and my test light just died :S.

Well its been confirmed its the BEM module. It didn't play up for the last couple of weeks and only got a chance to try thumping it yesterday. So what's wrong with it? Does the whole module need to be replaced, or is it just a connection that needs resoldering or something? If its the whole module, does a newbie have to be ordered from ford, or is it reprogramable and one can be picked up from the wreckers? Cheers for the replies all.
