Default wtf ebay...

im not a ebay user. i havent signed up for anything. ive never bought anything from ebay. ive never sold anything through ebay.

i got an email today;

Quote:
You were the winning buyer on eBay item BARNES & NOBLE $50.00 GIFT CARD "FREE SHIPPING" (5650438104). The seller, lesstress56, has told us that they have not received payment, or that you were unable to resolve this issue. As a result, you have received an Unpaid Item strike. Because of the repeated Unpaid Item strikes against your account, you have been automatically suspended from eBay.
You can appeal this strike if you believe it is not deserved. First, read the requirements for appealing the strike. If you meet them, you can submit your appeal on that page. If your appeal is successful the strike will be removed.
If you have recently paid for the item or have otherwise resolved this dispute, you can ask the seller to remove the Unpaid Item strike themselves.
Please note:
This suspension does not relieve you of your obligation to pay any balance on your eBay account. Please check you balance and make an immediate payment.

Continue >
wtf? should i just ignore it? to be honest its the second time its happened, the first time i just ignored it.

help me please...

I'd probably complain to eBay if I were you. Sounds like somebody used your email address to sign up to eBay and you're coppin the flack because they're bidding willy nilly on items.

Then again it could simply be a scam. I'd be sure to direct any complaint to eBay, and not the seller.

someone probably knows the password to your email account, and has signed up to ebay on your behalf. I think there is no other way you would receive that kind of email unless it's just SPAM of some kind.

why don't you go to ebay and try to get the password to the ebay account and have a look what's going down. Firstly though, perhaps a change of password to your account (email) would be a good thing to do as well.

You really need to contact EBAY and not ignore this.
If it's a scam at least they will be notified of that fact etc.
But, if you do ignore this you may be made responsible for any debt incurred in the name of your email account (especially if its an isp email addy), as that can sometimes be used as proof as you are the account holder (of email addy) so that makes you the account holder of the ebay account.

Ask yourself one thing, is it really that hard to contact them to sort it out???
Surely not

Cheers
Kerri

Solunds like a scam to me even more if you have notthing to do with e-bay .I would lod on the e-bay (not by the link given )and just tell them what you have been sent and let them take care of it ,plus the old rule to e-mails in this house is if you don't know why or whom sent a e-mail or you don't like the look of it don't open it just delete it as this kind of thing sometimes isn't good for PCs

Thats a strange one...not like the other fake emails....

Theres lots of ebay "phishing" emails going around, they make you "login" with your ebay or paypal details, and BAM...your goooone...they have your account login...

forward all of those fake ebay emails to spoof@ebay.com.au and they chase up all these fakes...

yea yea I know, could have chosen a better address eh! lol

But yea I would just email eBay and explain what has happened...

and bjr22n that is definately fake, send it to the email I listed above...

well i think im safe. looking at the email again i cant click on any of the links to argue my case etc, it doesnt have any of my details (name or ebay user name).

basically a mate pretty much confirmed that it was "spoof" or something... maybe im a little "old school" but that meant something else back in the 80s/early 90s didnt it?

thanks for that link, ill report it meow.

normally check the hyperlink location located within the email. if only one of the links does not link to a known ebay server, its fake

BJR: if had plenty of those email, and when you click on the link where u spposed to sign in it will take u to a page which looks identical to an ebay logi, but if you have a closer look at the script execution and the page location, you can see that the page is not located on an official ebay server.

Never ever enter you details into a login script you have been sent via email, if in doubt, go to ebay.com(.au) and login from there and investigate the claim, as proof of any sort of investiagtion WILL be evident in your history. If nothing there, then you can be sure that the email is a scam in order to get ur details.

Oh and there are hundruds and thousands of people who fall for this, because it looks that authentic, so be careful folks!

Well, the user name checks out ok, and so does the item number.
Lucky for you, the winning bidder is from the USA, their name is jano973.
Sounds like a scam to me mate, just report it to e-bay.

Watch these, the worse ones are ones from banks, they look real, but they ain't. No bank will ever send an email about Account details. Neither does eBay, its actually a breach of the privacy act that was just released last year for eBay to send these types of emails. These are just scams and people wanting to get your info so they can steal your identity. I know this as I am a CIO and we get all these security notices from Security sites etc.
