I wonder why they called it 488, wouldn't 388 Have made more sense, 3.8l 8 cylinder?
How long until we see this on something like Top Gear with the McLaren 650S and Ford GT. |

sad to have turbos rather than NA :-(
looks awesome though! Im sure you would feel the old NA version would be screaming fun where as this would be all too easy. Boring if you like... Like driving a CVT auto Tiida compared to a manual Tiida!hehe |

I'd take the speciale! The last N/A Ferrari V8. It's a shame that Lambo took so long to release the Huracán, because the 458 was always a generation ahead of the Gallardo in every facet. So, while the single biggest change from the 458 to the 488 is a smaller turbocharged engine, the fact that it has 660hp and - as well as what one could reasonably assume to be - a massive increase in torque, at least performance wise it'll no doubt ensure that Lamborghini is once again a generation behind.

@Cobra, Lambo a generation behind?
They choose to stay N/A. They have the ultimate parts bin for TT V8s ( audi ) and TT V10s. Hardly a gen behind just sticking to what the buyers of the brand like. |

Beautiful car and I'm all for turbos. Whenever we talk about these sorts of car, we're talking about art on wheels that costs a stupid amount of money and goes stupid fast.
And yet some painting on a wall can still cost more |

With regards to staying N/A, your inference of what I said to mean that choosing to stay N/A was a decision which, in itself, rendered Lamborghini a generation behind, couldn't be any more incorrect. I never implied anything of the such as they're completely mutually exclusive from each other in this case. What I said was that performance wise at least, the Huracán would be a generatin behind the 488, given its 50hp and 50kg disadvantage - not to mention the increase in torque of the new Ferrari motor. I don't know what Lambo will choose to do in the future. There's no doubt that in the future they too will be forced to conform to industry trends, mandated by governments to reduce carbon emissions and to increase fuel efficiency. Trends which have even forced Ferrari into going down the turbocharged route. But right now, thankfully Lamborghini have chosen to remain N/A. While this is great for the purust who, let's be honest, is the Lambo customers which you referred to earlier - the facts remain that it's tough for an N/A engine in a 50kg heavier car giving up 50hp and a heap of torque to keep pace. As for the engines available to Lamborghini in the VW/Audi parts bin, there's no doubt that there's an array of engines available to keep them right up there with the best performance cars in the world. Right now though, they're about as relevant as the 5.8 trinity motor is if you're looking for an engine to shoehorn in a Falcon to compete with the GTS. It's there, but it ain't in the car! If and when the Huracán - and for that matter the Audi R8 - is fitted with the 4.0L TT V8 from the RS6, it'll be game on, and then some for Ferrari! |
