Hi everyone, I am trying to find out if it is possible to fit 17" wheels to the 2012 ST. She who must be obeyed and loved (the missus not the car) says it's just too rough and she just isn't going to wear 2 sports bras every time I want to drive somewhere. In the good ol' USA they seem to be fitting 17's as a snow tyre option. I thought maybe I could run 215/50/17 Pilot3 which have a softer and taller sidewall and please us both. I went to my local Jax and he didn't even bother thinking about it and just said ""no wont fit in there mate". Am I missing something or do the yanks have a smaller brake caliper setup?

Go see the local ford dealer to see what they say.. i put michelin 235 40 18s on my st after the f1s and I am happy with em.... sidewall is no different to the f1, great tyre. I just didnt like the noise of the f1. 50 series tyre will help you on a 17

I've seen focus trend wheels in the front of an ST and I'm certain they are 16 inch. IMO your car will look stupid with less than 18 inch wheels but it's your car.

If you go smaller 16" wheels you're going to need to go up on sidewall of the tyre, and it will handle crap when the bigger sidewall flexes as well as being limited by tyre choice.
I've got 205/55R16 on my Focus and I can only get the older performance tyres like ContiSportContact 2. 17s would probably be the go IMO if you certainly want to go a bit more sidewall. |

My Mrs doesn't have a problem with the bouncing and she ain't small.
It isn't the tyres, it's the suspension. Got exactly the same tyre/wheel set up on the XR5 and ST and the 5 rides differently. Sent while boosting ....

Thanks for that, I had come across some people on forums there talking about a big brake package option so wasn't sure. I certainly wasn't looking at going to 16's that would be too much, but thought a compromise with 17's might work. Thanks everyone.

Have you tried running at a slightly lower inflation rate? I run at about 3psi under the recommended amount on the Skoda, and it takes the edge off hard bumps. The wear has been even on my tyres before anyone asks. I'm not saying you should go too low or under-inflate, just been on the lower side if your someone who tends to go high.
