two more questions
1) is Germany or Thailand make the Fiesta ST? 2) gap between second the third gear... how bad is it? |

FiST is German, rest of the range (I believe) is Thai. No noticeable gap between second and third for me, before or after tune and short-shifter...

Is there really any appreciable difference between the two factories? Have you actually sat a FiST and a Thai one side by side and compared? Would be interesting, I think some times to much is made of where its screwed together.
Both factories should run similar tolerances and use the same (more or less) common parts?

So, yes, the performance models come from Germany, but no, it's not an Audi factory.

I was so impressed that when I wanted to treat myself to some performance. I went straight out and bought the ST, didn't consider a Polo GTI or Swift Sports or anything else for a second. Been smiling ever since. P.S. Walked past some Toyota's and just kept walking , and as for Mitsubishi, two things to remember.... Beware the 3 Diamond Devil, and the last time Mitsubishi made anything worth having it was used as a fighter plane in WWII.

Similar story for me, bought a WS Zetec as a run about and loved it so much I bought an ST sight unseen, no test drive (salesman was perplexed)
Driving out of the dealership I instantly knew....Best. Decision. Ever. |

There is no Thai FIST. Regardless one is a 3 door (German ST) and the other (Thai Fiesta) is a 5 door. 3 door is stiffer. |

Are the U.S. Ones five door? Just have a memory that they, Mexican built I think, are five door. Which would be very interesting compared to the 3 door. A bit more practical for a lot of people. |

I think the US STs are also built in Germany vs Mexico for the regular Fiestas.
Hatchbacks are just less popular in the US so they opted for a more practical 5 door version, I imagine. Picking up a Race Red ST on Tuesday. Haven't driven a manual since the Evo in 2009.. so fingers crossed I don't stall the engine leaving the showroom :P |

Thanks for the welcome..
I live in Brisbane now but am driving to the Gold Coast for work. I am trading in an MY12.5 Tiguan 155TSI - which I bought when I was working in Sydney and thought I wanted more room to haul stuff. I really thought the GTI engine would give me some thrills but the car just felt uninvolving. I had more fun in my wife's MY11 77TSI Golf with a tiny 1.2 turbocharged engine ;) Anyway, I was itchy for a change and wanted something fun without too much money - and was looking at the Polo GTI at first - but it was just insane how much it cost - and once you started piling on the options - it is just unbelievable. Then I started seeing reviews pitching the Fiesta ST against the Polo and that piqued my interest ;) can't believe how much fun this tiny car is. I test drove the Fiesta before getting the Golf in 2011 but the build on the base Fiesta and the rear drum brakes were deal breakers then - so it made me overlook the ST initially glad I came to my senses. |

Thanks for the heads up. I remember watching a Motortrend? video which mentioned they were sourcing the US cars from Europe and that the car was identical to the European specs. Might have been before they started production in Mexico.

Just picked up the car. Been a real joy to drive stick after so long. The clutch and gearbox is great fun and rewarding to boot. You do sit a fair bit taller because of the Recaros but the visibility has been great and I have not had too much of an issue to heel-toe. The throttle response is fun. It feels like a feisty Jack Russell - small but darting with the craziest amount of energy.

Looks great and love the Rado Grey wheels.
It's screaming out for a front splitter.
