Default au fairlane chrome bonnet insert

Hi , ive have been looking thru a lot of info on various forums for information regaring the chrome bonnet insert on the AU's. wanting to find out for sure if the insert from a AU 2 FAIRMONT GHIA Sedan WILL or WON'T bolt into a AU/NU 2 FAIRLANE . They seem hard to come by for the fairlane but can get the fairmont ghia one , thanks j

No, it won't. Bonnets are completely different and the mouldings are a different shape.
The reason that the Fairmont ones are common, is that all Fairmonts (including series one) had chrome, but in the Fairlanes, the equivalent piece was usually body coloured. Only the LTD came with chrome.

You could look at the cost of getting a regular moulding chrome plated. There are a few places around that do plastic chroming (and that is all the genuine part is.)

interesting , the moulding on mine is body coulor , it does not actually sit in the relief in the bonnet but over it the full lenght . don't the auctual chrome insert fit into the relief in the bonnet as per the sedan . From what i have seen the LTD ones sit into the bonnet . might have to hit up my wrecker friends for some bonnet inserts to see whats what . thanks for your input Crazy Dazz.

was just surfing the google images and agree that you are right , the LTD chrome bonnet mould is a normal one in chrome , but when you serch TL50 they have the same insert from a standard AU 2 in the bonnet relief in body coulor , to givr that smooth look i suppose .

The Fairlane and LTD trims are the same, except the LTD is chromed and the Fairlane is painted. Some of the Fairlane "Ghia Sportsman" might have had chrome, but it wasn't common.
As you say, they tend to sit proud of the bonnet edge, to line up with the Fairlane/ LTD grills. I've never looked underneath, to see if you could fit a flush trim like the Fairmont, but even if you could it would look odd with a Fairlane Grill.

Hey, I just spied this one wrecking on flea-bay, appears to be a Ghia, and check-out the bonnet:
