"Another Perth car club cruise has ended with a crash, with several cars rear-ending each other on a wet Guildford Road in Bassendean on Saturday night.
It was the second chain reaction collision in a week after a similar incident in Perth's southern suburbs last Saturday. A car club convoy came to an embarrassing halt in Bassendean when several members rear-ended one another. Photo: Perth WA Revenue Raisers That damage bill for five souped-up vehicles involved in the Jandakot car pile-up was estimated in the tens of thousands of dollars. Drivers in that incident were forced to brake suddenly in an attempt to avoid a line of stationary vehicles waiting in traffic and crashed. Related Content And it appears something similar may have happened in Bassendean on very slick roads after Perth's first big downpour of the year. The accident occurred around 11.15pm on Guildford Road about 50 metres from the intersection with Collier Road. Police spokesman Sam Dinnison said an initial caller report suggested seven cars may have been involved. "There was fewer than that - a number of unrelated vehicles were parked up on the verge," he said. Mr Dinnison said there was only minor damage and there were no injuries. "Police breath-tested drivers and managed the traffic flow while tow trucks attended and the area was cleared," he said. The club involved in the Bassendean prang has previously said it does not tolerate "any hooning, skids or stupid driving" on its cruises. Social media posts took some glee from the mishap: "If the club don't (doesn't) tolerate hooning, skids etc then they might wanna look at the drivers in their club 'cos they clearly can't drive with so many accidents lately . . ." - Kate Hartland. "Well, if hoons keep this up . . .the streets will be a little safer because they won't have anything to drive." - Tony DeChellis, Jr." "Doesn't anybody look what's happening in front of them these days? Keep yo peepers on the road instead of looking at the shifter trying to find where the other gear is - hahaha!" - Stephen O'Brien. "Hahaha - I hope they have good insurance. Idiots." - Ash Healy. One poster did manage to find some sympathy: "Whoa, whoa, whoa! Go easy people. I drove around very gingerly last night and still lost traction without trying. This may have been a case of oily roads. "Don't be so quick to judge. (No, I'm not a member of this car group, just someone who saw first hand how slippery it was last night.) "Just allow that little extra room when wet at the moment. Lots of oil on the roads after a long dry spell." - Kevin Bennett. http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/pe...27-gnrrgr.html

All commodore drivers by the looks.. guess their time off over in the FIFO state doesn't give them enough practice in real world road conditions

Unfortunately alot of the 'facetube' clubs over here in the west are hoons. Tagged along to one with a mate a couple of weeks back, well known organisation, club president turns up like a scene from the fast and furious then tells us all to keep our foot out of it on the cruise over his loud hailer, lol!!!
I tend to just stick to myself nowadays, it only takes one idiot...

Not a huge surprise and is common enough apparently on a rainy day. Doesnt rain often (least this side lf river) and when it does, its slick as and people need more care! However i find drivers here pretty hopeless compared to the other major cities ive been/lived in so im not surprised.
This only made it to news as it was part of a club cruise which is perfect for the media to quickly enthusiast bash and label them hoons. Useless free speech propaganda media *******.

I heard it was a conga line of F6 owners that crashed.
They all turned their heads suddenly when a pp Turbo Sprint overtook them. Wouldn't have been a problem except they all had the Dunflops on. One F6 owner complained that the gold calipers on the Sprint blinded him.

Unlucky for those involved.
Why do these reporters still use the term 'souped up cars'? Didn't that term die out in the 60's??? |

I'm not too worried about the media using the word hoon, if they're not called hoons they'd just come up with another label. The one that gets me is the term 'car club' last time I was involved clubs had a structure, treasurer, secretary etc, they're affiliated with other organisations, offer concessional licences and usually aren't out at midnight, in the wet, wearing flat brimmed caps backwards. Maybe its a changing of the guards with these e-phone groups becoming more popular, I believe these guys were called the 'undisputed car club' thats a laugh in itself. Pity they're giving the real clubs a bad name just like theirs..
Anyway thats my rant, the media has won in its bid to objectify the subject.

Anyone consider it might have been a hot chick walking in their direction that caught their attention and as a consequence a lack of concentration ensued?

The problem with car clubs is they take a good concept and then politicise it, secretary, treasurer, memberships etc.
Pretend politics in a place where you don't want politics. |

Without being incorporated you cant practically get the insurance and permits to hold events etc. I have seen the structure done bad and I have seen it done great. Like most things in life, it ultimately depends on members attitudes actually want to make it work...
