What's the easiest car to sell second hand?

Hi there,
A question to throw out for opinion.
If I need to grab a car, between 13-20k from a dealer that will comfortably seat 5, towbar would be a plus, what's the easiest thing to own for 6 months then move again with minimal expense or wait time? Obviously price dependant.
I was thinking Camry, hilux, Mazda 3( all very soulless I know)
And yes I've lost faith in Australian stuff for the moment, I'll be looking for a good v8 caprice later in the year.

I've currently got a 2007 WM V8 Caprice in silver and absolutely TOP condition for sale on a few sites. It only has 44,272kms on the clock! (yep, that's 44,272 - not a typo!) Yours for $21,500. Original HSV 20" wheels and sunroof and small HSV boot tail spoiler. Getting a new Sprint probably around July build so will be your then if you want it. Can email you photos if needed. Toyota Corolla Sedan. Previous shape (Japanese built) 2010 - 2013. Don't know about the latest Thai one. Not a Toyota fan by any stretch, but it is cheap, reliable, durable transport with excellent crash safety and cheap to insure. I survived being rear ended by a dump truck in one of these so I can vouch for its safety. You will probably lose nothing at all in resale over 6 months. It is surprisingly roomy and the boot is large enough for most needs. Fast enough, drives and handles much better than a Camry and doesn't have the silly Australian-car niggles like worn diff bushes, brake shudder, loss of wheel alignment destroying tyres, ball joints and suspension bushes.

Are you thinking selling it privately then?
My feeling is that dealers trade-in or buy-back price always will be no more than 3/4th of what it was sold for.

Only thing I can think of is to buy a car from a large auction such as Pickles / Manheim, since the price there would be less than dealer selling price, which would give you potentially less losses when you decide selling it.

What about a Ford Focus or Mondeo? Nothing wrong with the build quality, and if a couple of years old these models have already taken an ugly hit on the depreciation from new.

The "comfortably seat 5" requirement - is that 3 adults across the back seat, or 3 kids?

If it's 3 adults then you can rule out nearly everything above except the Caprice.

Thanks for the replies. Reason for the dealer is I just need to move my current caprice reasonably quickly, and am weighing up options on what to do til I upgrade.

Fastest cars I have moved on quickest are my Falcons.

Slowest Focus, Territory and A3

I usually price cars to sell and my Falcons are usually gone within 14 days.

Terry focus and A3 took 2 to 3 months but I did not lower price just seems like small market or lots of supply...

i wouldn't buy one though when a camry is cheaper and i wouldn't buy one of them either
i'd buy an FG XR6 or G6E but i'd be sure to lose money.

check out the auction site like manhiem, (government auctions) my parents buy ex cop cars and last one was a 9 month old pajero for $23k that retailed for $47k then sold it for $27 after putting 30,000km on it 12 months later

What you are doing makes no sense, a dealer will give you SFA for your car regardless of whether it is immaculate or has a issue ( perhaps this is why you wish to trade ). For whatever reason it is you are still only going to get so much for a trade.
If you are financing the new car up to $20,000 you are behind the 8 ball before you start, if you have cash why bother risking it all on an unknown vehicle that is most likely overpriced to begin with.
An example for you is myself, I will freely admit that in the last few years I have burnt a few dollars on this price range. All good low kay cars for the age ( 100 - 140,000 ) in immaculate cond. The RACQ reports were good, logbook servicing, generally one owner and all the rest Without fail I had to spend money on something in a short period of time, nothing major but these days even the simplest thing is an easy $500 + .
Want a temporary 5 seater that won't burn you. AU, plenty out there and for the money a free 6 months rego probably

The answer is whatever car you can get the deepest discount on at purchase

This discount can be passed through when you sell and offers the most universally attractive thing to buyers - a cheap price

Eg. You can currently get an i30 for circa $16.5k brand new 2015 plate

If you go to sell it you will be up against people who paid over $20k

Discount by the same margin as them and it will be gone overnight

Of course this vehicle and price does not meet your needs, but it is a car I am shopping for and therefore familiar with to demonstrate the point

You want a bargain price over and above everything else as its gonna be gone in less than a year anyway

I would make a point of not selecting a make/model/colour as it will only give you tunnel vision and make you overpay relative to the next option

Uh... you do realise that this is nominally an Australian site? There's really no point in recommending a sales yard in the US.
