Default Convers update - a q for those who've done it

Hi all,
Took my 2011 MC titanium tdci in to get the convers update at Lynford in Osborne Park.
I was told they could do it, but I would lose certain features and I would not be able to revert back. They could not tell me what those features were of course!! Could someone who has done the update tell me what I will lose in the process and if it's a problem?
Apparently a few people have not been happy with what they have lost?

Thanks!

Never heard anything about losing features, only gaining features!
Glad to hear that a Ford Dealership is able to assist you anyway. At the moment I am not having much luck getting this done either.

Here are some other threads with more info; http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthr...hlight=convers and

I can imagine applying the update might wipe your current trip and average fuel economy values, no-one should be too upset about that though!

Out of interest, what's your current version number and do you know what they're offering? (You can get your version number by putting the cluster into diagnostic mode - with car off hold OK button and turn ignition on without starting engine - then scroll to the screen that says 'NVM target ROM'.)

Well I have just spoke to Ford customer service (like ope126) and they tell me there is no new update in Australia. I asked about how information for the updates is distributed from Ford overseas to Ford Australia as some cars have the update and it is through the engineering department and they will contact the engineering department and advise them of my request. I wont hold my breath.

Where did you get the 10/2012 date from? Mine was built 7/3/2012.

Mine is a March 2012 Zetec EcoBoost. What is in the update that has everyone so interested in it? I'd like to have the temp gauge displayed if possible, maybe a digital speedo too.

Hi guys,
I have been in contact with Alex who is a programmer and supplies updates for the convers+ in the Mondeo. If you haven't seen his work, here is a link: http://www.talkford.com/community/to...new-functions/

First, you need to have software version 1412. Mine is 1304 and I am off to see a Ford dealer to see if they can or will upgrade the software. Ford Australia says it is a free service and there should be no charge from the dealer.

Second, you need to have a modified USB ELM327 ie: one of these: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ELM327-OB...gAAOSw2s1U1dN1

Then you buy the modified software from Alex and connect your laptop to upgrade. He will supply instructions and help with any problems. Reading several forums, everyone seems happy with the upgrades. The prices and what you get is below:

Here are the prices: (FL Convers+)
the update with Park Assist price is 80EUR
it includes:
- park assist displaying
- PTC heater displaying
- marker and front light are separated
- locked door alert messages (messages only, doors still are displays on the car image)
- modified turn off logic of MHU (mediaheadunit) on ignition off and driver door open only
- clock in standby mode
- a current gear indication for automatic gearboxes in D & S modes

also available
- digital speed with displaying controlled by menu +20EUR
- extended colour theme menu (6 items for now) +20EUR
- digital engine temperature and voltage (on main interface and standby mode) +20EUR
- TPMS patch (for non-factory installed sensors without
replacement a BCMii module and without installation of the wheel antennas.
please read the TalkFord.com topic for details) +40EUR
- custom personal standby logo +20EUR

fw update to latest (1412) + 20EUR (if required)

So there is all the info I have been able to get. I have bought a ELM327 and plan on buying the upgrade but it won't happen until August as I will be away but I'll head to the dealer today/tomorrow and see what they say about upgrading the dash to 1412 otherwise I will have to buy 1412 from Alex as well. BTW, I believe 1412 is where you get the water temp on the main screen.

I have Alex's email address. Just PM me if you want it and say you got the info from Ford Forums in Australia.

I'd like a couple of added features, but not enough to spend the $150 odd and time to do upgrade.

I've been caught out a bit with gear selection, when shifting to S to engine brake. The car seems to automatically drop a gear lower when shifting from D to S, so when I was shifting to S then manually down shifting straight away I'd end up dropping 2 gears.

I wonder what the digital speed would display. In my car everything is a bit out. For Example:

- Actual Speed = 100 (measured by phone GPS)
- Speed Sensor? = 100 (from OBD2 scanner and Forscan Lite)
- Analogue Speedo = ~104
- Cruise Set Speed = ~106

and here in lies the problem. Ford AU are mostly useless with this sort of thing.

I hope you'll come back and let us know how the homebrew upgrades work out. Have you decided what items off the menu you'll be selecting?

I have seen that thread and I really like the look of some of the enhancements, especially graphical parking assist. Didn't know he'd added the digital speedo, that's good too. Unfortunately like manchu, at the moment I can't justify the cost nor the (slight) risk of bricking the car...

(BTW, anyone know what happens if you take the car to Ford with a homebrew Convers+ and they plug in their IDS?)

I've noticed that on my car too. Analogue speedo will indicate 100 but VSS (gearbox output speed sensor) reads only 95. My indicated speed in cruise control usually matches the analogue speedo though, except for one or two occasions where it was several km/h out for some reason.

Hi Guys,
I've been away on holiday for a while and now I'm back, it is time to show my modified Convers+ display

I've now got the temp gauge, modified fuel gauge, clock, gear selection in D or S mode plus the parking mode has been added. Super easy to do and installed first go.

All thanks go to Alex who supplied the files. :

PS: The photo taken whilst moving was not done by the driver.

Yes very cool alright. I want!

How did you go upgrading the cars software version from 1304 to 1412 to begin with?
You mentioned this upgrade couldn't be done without this later version.

What was the final cost in $AUS if you don't mind me asking?

It cost $100 EUR and that included upgrading to 1412, the gear indicator, parking sensors display. I have asked about a DPF indicator so you know when it is burning off and he is working on that. As soon as it available I will install that as well.
