When my sons were babies and they sometimes took a while to go to sleep, i would put them in their carseats and take them for a cruise in my 351 XF
put them to sleep when nothing else did. Wtf is v8 noise? It's rhythm and melody!

Perhaps some dynamatting or sound proofing in the boot and under the rear seats/ floor pan could offset some of the noise.

Funny people care about the kids nowadays so much.
I went to school in an old school bus, I am sure it was not roadworthy and just the smell of the old blue flame blow-by, no one gave it a second thought and the driver was that old and over .05 I remember asking my dad could he windup his window because I was freezing, he never would ! that was like some sort of insult to him. Hey could you pull up I want to take a ****, never no way ! Ask, so where are we going in the car, no answer. Children were to be seen and not heard. Your Oldies smoking and if you did not like it, stiff ! Oldies would be talking wog talk and I ask, could you lot talk English and they would go off the rocker, we are not talking about you ! that's not the point, you can all speak English and I just find it rude for them to be jabbering on and on with that crap. |

Your newborn will be fine. I had a WRX with full exhaust and straight cut gearbox. That was loud! But as someone else said, no diff to having the radio up. The cars have good sound deadening so it's nothing like a race car.
We just had another little one, arrived on 2/8. Good luck with it all.

For the first 6 months of his life, my child was carted around in the back of a 71 Fastback Mach1. The thing was a beast. no problems here.
HOWEVER... I learnt to wait till bub was awake to start the thing. The nursery window lined up exactaly with the rear end of twin pipes on a Boss 351 with a 750 and a rear pump that needed noisy ten second priming before ignition. But that was the house design problem not the car LOL |

My daughter would have her baby seat in my XB coupe with dual three inch exhaust and straight through mufflers, and all she wanted me to do was rev the engine more. The only ill effect that I can see that came of it is that she is 13 now and loves V8's Parenting done right. And no the Coupe did not have a 5 star safety rating, but it did have a 4V Cleveland and toploader

Strange way of doing it, when my kids were tired I would just put them to bed, much easier and more effective in the long run

You really don't need to change your car for your kids. "Back in the day" my mum sold her aging HK Kingswood with 308 for a 1 year old EA Falcon GLi 3.9ltr 3 speed auto because she thought she needed a "family car". I drove the same car when I was a p plater, it was a POS.
Don't commit the same sins that she did! |

Whenever we are in the XR8, my daughter (11 next week) asks me to "put in sports mode, Dad!" Yeah, she loves the sound of the V8

Thanks for the comments guys, didn't think i'd cop so much crap for the question haha. My issue now is finding a replacement that is immaculate and in my price range. I will add though, i'm not buying another car to suit the kids. The wife has an Outlander and that will be the daily car. I ride my bike to work now so it leaves me open to sell the FGXR6T and buy a weekend only car again. Truthfully the XR6T was always a stop gap car and it has been absolutely faultless in the 4 years we have had it, i just really miss the V8 manual, i miss it so bad

Some people forget that the baby can get used to noises & sounds inside the womb when the mother is traveling. Familiar sounds to them, help them sleep once they are born. If you already have a v8 you will be doing a service to keep the v8 for those contemplating on selling. I know the OP is looking to buy 1, but I dont think it will be a detriment to the childs hearing. I think the opposite.

The Miami is a technical masterpiece but it's not like the old school V8's. And whichever you choose don't put a cam in it. Big cams are for racing engines only. They ruin road cars in my opinion.

Oh turn it up, we've all seen your car turnover rate, you'll go through 46 cars before the end of next year.
