Hi there.
I have just purchased a 92 Telstar Ghia tx5 V6 with manual transmission. I am wondering what are common problems with these vehicles or is there anything in particular to watch out for? Any other advice will be appreciated too. Thanks. |

Hey, I had a '93 V6 manual. I had the rocker gasket leak oil into the rear bank's plugs (externally) - cost a bit to get fixed. I had to replace the lower control arms the bushes were worn out- genuine parts were like poison so equally oK non genuine ones were put on for a lot less.
Unlike the previous post, the gearbox was fine though the clutch was tired when I sold it. ALso the exhaust was on the fritz. The short runs kill any exhaust so do another run around the block to warm it through & dry out the condensation. Check the outer CV boots for splits too. That was up till 162k when I sold it. Brake pads lasted 140k and the thing went like a stung cat. The best car I have owned bang for buck though the Territory seems good for the tasks now at hand. TX5? Great car. Regards, Jock |

Thanks for the replies. So far I have had to replace the front engine roll
mount and I also did the timing belt. No problems with the gearbox at this stage but there is a slight knock from the rhf so I might check the control arm bushes and ball joints. I also had a problem with one of the VRIS solenoids but fixed that with a $20 replacement from the wreckers. I do love the engine, its got good grunt down low, and pulls strongly and smoothly to redline. |
