Default What do you do to get a 24 yr old car as good as a newer one when you dont have the $ to do all at once

hi

just been asked this

how do you get a old car as dependable as a newer one when theres things that need fixing and you cant afford all the repairs/parts at once and have to do it bit by bit,

need to get newer engine as oneday the head gasket will need a proper fix and itll be just as cheap to get newer engine, also need to get ac fixed and some suspension work, but at same time once theyre wll done itll only be little things after that anf should be good for years

also have to at some point fix paint up

want to go places and you cant go to some places like going seeing cousins until all things or atleast big things are fixed and not everyone wants or is intrested in a update and some have already put good $$ into their current ones

Why were the previous answers to basically the same question unsatisfactory?

Not to be rude, but is English your first language? Your posts seem to be written like you've used google translator from a different language.

If you're engine needs fixing that is priority...Then brakes and suspension then do the paint. the rest of stuff don't bother if it ain't broke? Are you trying to restore a car or is it a daily driver?

everyday but have it good as new or better

and with k seal and liquid intelligence they say take out spark plug with miss in directions so if you do that plus unplug fuel injector for that cyl and run it with empty spark plug hole while using the sealer then put plug back in and plug it all back in once the sealers done its job, will that be ok for engine

Learn how to do a headgasket yourself. A vrs set is reasonably cheap. You may need to get the head repaired or buy one already recoed. That goop only makes a mess and slightly delays the enivitable.

To get your 24 year old car better you just have to do little bits as you can afford it. Remember you can get a lot of stuff used from wreckers or gumtree ot ebay. Keep your eyes open at wreckers for already upgraded parts on cars. I've seen plenty of springs and sway bars and even poly bushes and shocks.

got lucky once alternator went and got one somewhere that was only a week old and found a brake booster that came out of a car that had a new one put in at some stage, and would you go new or used steering rack if your keeping car

also will taking spark plug and unplugging injector for the missing cyl be ok while running the sealer and put it all back once its done its job

Dude, if you want advice you need to give some details about you your location, your car and your budget.

There are people here that can probably help you out.

I would not put money into an EF falcon when you can buy a reasonably cheap AU or BF with low kms that will last for another 10 to 15 years.

Where are you?
What car do you own?
What is wrong with it?
What budget do you have?
Do you work?

Answer the above and someone may actually be able to hep you out.

I can't believe someone has to actually ask this question...
Do the safety stuff first followed by the reliability stuff.
Leave the cosmetics till last.

Agree, I'm not taking this seriously until the above is answered regardless of how hot the cousin is.

You're complaining about a car that is 24 years old. Try dealing with one that is 40. Things get expensive real quick doing that.
No matter what. Do a service above all else.
The way I've always been taught, safety is first (braking and handling, includes ALL bushings replace pads and shoes if they need it), next up is suspension (just oem factory replacement, or something like koni), then it's your reliability (where you repair the engine, A/C does not come under here), nearly there with your comfort (A/C comes under here with anything else you deem as comfort) and last is appearance.

It's the little things that will add up.

i think you need to look after your 24 year old car and check things like that it running ok and make sure you check the oil and that you check that things like the engine work ok and that the tyres are good but you have to get the engine looked at by someone that is a mechanic and that you check that other things like the body is ok and that the seats and other things are still good

2. Cosmetic parts,
3. a big subwoofer and amplifier.

also what makes the radio in newer cars better at picking up fm from nearly 2 hours away most days without alot of trouble than a aftermarket kvc/kenwood/pioneer in a old car

what likely has been fitted to the newer cars to make it better, better antennas, twin antennas or likely a fm booster on the cable

what else could you do to make the older cars as able as newer cars to travel further in warmer weather without the possibillity of cooling system problems, what has likely been done to the newer cars what makes them better

The newer cars seem to run cooler if you mix up some indicator fluid, remove the 710 cap and pour it in there instead of the washer bottle. Try it. The older cars ran hotter because they had hotter spark plugs, sometimes they would over heat from struggling to carry around all the heavy lead in the petrol.
Once you accidentally snap off the arial and replace it with coat hanger wire in the shape of a hand with it's finger sticking up the aftermarket stereos will pick up every station regardless of what stezza you have fitted. Pffft, everyone knows that dude.
