In my au 1 ute, when i'm travelling slow (eg under 10km), the front suspension makes a clunk.
I know it's the fornt ball joints and i've herd of this problem before but i was just wondering how other people fixed it. This was in the forums before but the post is now gone and i need help. Cheers |

If people has had to change them, did they do em them selves or get them done by someone.
If done yourself, is it a big job? Cheers |

You need to lower the K-frame to remove the lower arms & you need a press to get the new ball joints in. |

I havent checked the AU setup witht he balljoints but its seems most cars these days have a sealed balljoint , with the sealued units its usually a case of drilling the back of balljoint cover/housing out then sticking something in the hole (metal punch or something) and knocking the old balljoint out of its socket, i had to do the front end on an XF van like that years ago.

u can pop the new balljoints in with a g/clamp , get it as tight as u can , put a extra lenght bar on the g/clamp for leverage , then when u got it as tight as u can - give it a good whack with a heavy teflon mallet and it should pop the joint back in , worked for me. Oh, That method of drilling was also what came on a bit of paper with the new balljoints years ago from Ford ! .

oh 1 mope thing , i actually found it easier to pop the balljoints using a centre punch in the hole u drill in the back of the housing , then use a pulley remover mounted/clamped grabbing around the bottom outside of the balljoint housing then centre the pin of the pulley remover on the centre punch , then tighten away till it pops out , was much easier than trying to tap away in a small space with a hammer like was suggested on the form i got , and that was getting nowhere ....

Knocking out AU ball joints is easy, getting them back in is the drama, they're bloody tight! It's also easy to damage the seat if they're not pressed in properly. Then you're up for 2 more new ball joints. |

oh and back then when i did them there was nothing my mate got from ford for bolt-ins , i had to do the above procedure as stated on the paperwork that my mate got with his new balljoints from ford. I don't know if they have newer bolt-ins these days or even if they too were around back then , but thats what we were supplied . Wasnt hard to do it either , just figity in a small wheel arch space .
