Just got home from a holiday in NZ... damn they have some strange cars over there.

Mitsubishi Legnum?? (2.5 V6 turbo AWD or somethin)
Toyota Caldina GT (its like a corolla wagon on steroids)

Seems imports are the big thing over there, dissapointingly few Falcons. And petrol - $1.49 p/litre. :

I saw a BA GT with a T3 series spoiler and strange bodykit, and a BA XR8 with AU biplane spoiler. I'll say... different.

Any kiwis wanna tell me wat the go is with these imports?

Cheers.

legnum is a galant... caldina is like a corolla turbo... they get a lot of imports over there... and their laws are a bit less srtict... you can drive a big block blown camaro or mustang over there no worries, as long as it is driveable...

Well, you have to get anything certd if you do major mods to a car (a very good check to make sure your 351 that you put in a mk1 escort isnt going to fall through the poor car).
A caldina is just a corolla wagon, some are turbo but most not, my dad has a 1.8 standard, some have AWD aswell.

Kiwis tend to take pride in doing thing ahhhh how do I put it, "differently".
They make McGiver look like a rank amateur and will attempt to do something like a complete engine rebuild using a rusty nail, 2 coat hangers and a stick of blu-tac.

They always have a cheaper way of doing anything.....

e.g. Kiwi aluminium = wood painted with silver frost enamel.

If you have never seen it before, watch that kiwi cop show and see some of the stuff they get up to.....

On the other hand in what other country in the world is there a tourist attraction that consists of jumping off the tallest building in the biggest city?
Or when you hunt you put a silencer on your assault rifle so as not to disturb others?

NZ is my favorite place to visit in the world.....

Its called ingenuity, why pay for a firm to rebuild your engine for a small fee of $3000 odd bucks when you can do it yourself for $50 and do a far worse job but have so much fun? :

Dont we all want to come to NZ though!! We have the best rugby team in the world after al!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :

Yeah Emina is the Jap name, all the second hand imports are called that. They (your Tarago) are sold new as a Previa.

Pretty much anything they have in Japan gets imported over here at some point. A few examples:

95 Toyota Aristo, 3.0L I6, twin turbo, RWD, 5 speed man:

01 Toyota Verossa, bit of an ugly thing, but its RWD. Seen a few of these around now:

These are starting to come in now, you might have seen it on Top Gear. 02 Nissan Cube:

The Kiwi's were importing some ИИИИ a while ago, not holding up at all well in accidents, but the laws have clamped down, and now the only cars that can be imported are cars from manufacturers that have a crash testing program.

I existed in NZ for about 6 years, wife is a kiwi, aussie citizen now. You dont ever want to go there to "live" the best you can do is exist... And the weather is sooooo depressing. Their jap, car import industry is huge.... We rented some kind of 6 cylinder kia for $25 a day. Was'nt worth that much to buy, but very handy to just leave it at the airport and fly home. Oh yeah, and the fishing is crap!!
