but i must ask, why bother??

if you're only after the sound......

i mean, everyone i know that drives an 'old school 8', doesnt drive it just because it sounds tuff......

and when you start playing with twin systems on a 6cyl, its easy to 'over exhaust' your car, which leads to bad economy.

If you cant tell the difference between a Cleveland V8 ANY 6 cyl regardless of make, you are either hard of hearing, cant count past 6 or just plain stupid....

if you want a v8 sound, buy a v8. You'll never get a 6 to sound like a v8. If you want a lumpy idle, disconnect the MAP sensor hose...it's free. But start saving your Safeway fuel discount dockets cause your gonna need em.

Yes I've done that. I've had a Triumph 2000 and I jigsawed the entire roof off. Had an old 15 inch Monitor Gold in the back. Had to take the seat out and remove the door to get it in and out. Pull the choke out at the lights, idle like a V8 and I sucked one person in. Now wasn't that fun!?

Back on topic - I am sure that with $400 you could buy yourself a beat up old XD Falcon with a 302/351 clevo in it, that will sound lumpy as all hell, but not because its cool, but because it is tuned very poorly and backfires when you give it any throttle... Wow that story sounds very familiar... I think I have pics of that.... lol ;)

have any of you actually heard a cleveland?????

a 6cyl with two plug leads not connected will sound like, well, a 6cyl running on 4cyl's...

walkinshaw's car has a rather lumpy cam, has trouble idling, and that sounds like an ill-tempered 6......

my 5.0 ef has a twin exhaust etc, it doesnt sound like a clevo.....

The old 2V's can sound pretty good.

My advice though, is put a V8 in your car. Could get a long motor + trans for around $4-500 bucks.

It was a custom grind cam that I got second hand, so I don't know all the specs. Power starts kicking in at 3500rpm, but when it does...

I had a Holden blue 202 that sounded exactly like an 8 at idle.

The holes through the exhaust helped.

But mostly it was the lumpy idle that shook the whole car. Could possibly have been the 20 cent coin-sized hole right the way though piston 6. That could have something to do with it.

P.S. I've still got the piston if you're interested .

A cam with 230deg @ 0.50 and a 3inch system with a single straight through or no muffler, or a twin system with twin large cats and 2.5inch or smaller pipes. That would be close for a six banger. Even my stage 3 crow cam and a 3inch exhaust with 3inch cat sounds like an 8, twangin' above 4000rpm. But clevos 'll hit 7000rpm, ours only hit 6000. Geeze they had big port heads, eb 6 heads have the biggest ports, which would help lumpen up the idle as their would be less air speed. If you have a broadband manifold, making it use the short runners all of time, would also lumpen up the idle. Clevos heads were huge, even in 2v form, thats part of the reason for their top end charge and lumpy idle. You can fit Clevo heads to a Windsor, that would start to sound like a Clevo.

That may of been my EL with an Alted/RPD stage 3 cam. Recorded on a dying mic, but you get the idea..
