Default Belt or pulls failure help! 2009 TDCI LV Focus 6sp Auto

So was driving home and in the last 200 meters of my trip I start hearing odd noises, then it sounded like I drove over a branch and had some grinding.

Got home and popped the bonnet
Looks like one of the pulleys or something has shifted and the belt is shredding against it

If this an easy fix , does anyone know what that disk is, is it s tensioner or the water pump? (Yeah, I know that little about cars)

Any advice appreciated.

it looks like an idler pully but cannot be sure. they are relatively easy to replace but need smallish hands in the engine bay. the bearing must have failed badly for ti to move that way They usually make a noise for a long time before failing so bad

I haven't heard any squealing noises, but the disc was eaten away by the belt so not so thing I can just pop on.

Was hoping for a quick fix but it's a wee bit more than that.

That pulley at the very top is your alternator pulley and beneath it should be an idler pulley

So the alternator is ok but the tensioner under it is cactus so need a new one of those along with a belt.

Yay

I went back down when more knowledgeable friend showed up, the belt has actually sawed a cut into the wheel, and like like it's rubbing on the exposed bearing.

She's good and knackered.

Best practice is to replace tensioners/pulleys with belts after a certain time.
They loose their ability to provide the correct tension.

Simple enough to replace, this looks like they've never been changed out - probably only plastic and do a fair bit of work.

I'm not mechanically able, so I trust the mechanics I pay to service these things in accordance with manufacturer and visible wear.

Working today and Mondays a public holiday so well see how Tuesday goes
