Hi .. Intermittent concern. there is a knocking noise/thud thud thud noise, heard when I come to idle at signals/end of drive. This tends to occur when I drive a bit quickly and there are multiple occasions of braking quicker. As soon as I hear this noise when idling, I accelerate slowly and don't really rev too much. The noise disappears in sometime after I drive this way.
If I am at the end of my drive, I switch off the car and in about 5 mins, I restart the car and the noise is gone. However, if I restart the car within a minute or so, the noise can still be heard. What could be making this noise? Showed this to Ford Dealers and they couldn't replicate it nor could they find anything wrong. Help please.. |

It's not the DPF regeneration process?
Maybe take it on a freeway run to burn that DPF soot away.. |

Dayum!!! that's weird. Forget Ford useless bunch on Euro's if you ask me. I'd start looking (read hearing) from within the engine bay and narrow down side/s it's coming from. Then try to narrow it down, like the aux drive belt or idlers/tensioner, then intake and exhaust systems, engine mounts before lastly going electrical (so obd2 adaptor) and looking at cylinder balance readings to rule out firing issues.

In that its unlikely to be from dpf regen association.

I've noticed it twice during DPF regen at idle.
Maybe caused by fuel injection to the exhaust? Mere surmise: https://buddwilkins.wordpress.com/20...ious-man-2009/ Last edited by rondeo; 16-05-2017 at 05:19 PM. Reason: addition |

I would check the crankshaft bolt as a matter of urgency. There is a history of the bolt coming loose which if left unchecked, can destroy the end of the crankshaft and if it comes off completely, can let the timing go and destroy the engine.
I believe there is a TSB at ford to tighten at each service. One of my work colleagues had this happen to his TDCi Zetec at about 48,000km (3k after a Ford service) which resulted in a new engine at his cost (out of warranty)

It's sounds like my Kuga TDCi when it goes into DFF Regen.
Usually, instant fuel will read 0.5L idle but when this noise is occurring, it's up to 1.2-1.5L. Very Interesting!! |
