Yikes. After religiously running 40000 only with 95 and 98 I put United E10 in my tank this morning...erroroneously.
Anyone running this fuel? the 11 -15 cents extra paid for 95 in South East Qld above e10 is getting harder and harder to justify apying exttra bucks for 95. But i want to run this car 5 years and 200,000kms and look after it. Any comments on E10 and this engine. |

I also have an LZ and run 95 in it. My personal preference is not to use E10. Some reading on the subject --

is there really a problem? most E10 is 94 ron, only some are 91...
so is 95 premium justified over 94?? interesting subject.

Yes especially when united e10 is 95 octane.
My budget is under extreme pressure and paying fuel companies an extra 12/15 cents a litre for 95 over e 10 is a real question mark when you clock up 700 kms a week. |

Can't the focus run on 91?
The only time you need to go up in octane is if the manufacturer demands it or your engine is detonating. Otherwise there is no reason not to run 91, you're only giving money away. If Ford say 95 at a minimum then that's what you must use. Octane is only resistance to detonation, nothing more.

We run our LZ focus on 91. that's it's minimum rating and the car isn't doing anything out of the ordinary performance wise. It's just the missus car for going to the shops and all that type of thing.
The BA XR8 that I used to have ran on 98 all the time. The FGII XR6 that I have now is also running 91 majority of the time. It's my work hack, so it runs on the minimum rated octane. Basically, it all comes down to my love of the vehicle and whether it's been modified and needs the good stuff. Stock standard car doing no strenuous driving and I'll stick with the cheaper fuel.

Our little ripper has had BP Ultimate since day dot, constantly gets 600+ with the missus doing her regular work to home trip, best she ever managed was 660, we're yet to take it on a massive trip to see what we manage then, but hell that's what the sprint is for

[What do you get on 91?
If you don't have the compression to drive it 98 can result in a cooler and late bang.

I’ve been running my LZ Sport on E10 for the last few fills over Christmas. It’s runs fine and designed to run on it. I have been running BP Ultimate 98 most of the cars life (mainly because Velocity points), but it is getting far too expensive here in Sydney.
In fact in some markets the 1.5 Ecoboost runs on E85. Not sure why so many people hate E10... it has 94-95 RON and the car runs on E10 much better than standard 91. If the car can advance timing with the increased RON, the loss in energy vs price becomes much of a muchness.

I think most of the anti-E10, comes from when it first came out and people hadn't been told that it was in their fuel.
Most cars are developed to run on it these days and there is a slight concern over longevity of the engine, but majority of people will have passed the vehicle on a long time ago, by the time it matters. But, how much of this is all rumored? ....and the automotive industry is becoming more disposable with their vehicles anyway.
