At least it will have the blinkers on the RHS stalk and the wipers on the LHS.

VW and numerous other Europeans are just plain lazy in not making their vehicles fully RHD.

Good luck to the i30N, I hope it kicks VW's teeth.

I'd doubt VW would want to draw attention to itself in legal circles .... ;)

Top Gear Episode 4 this season, goes up against the Kia Stinger and wins in like a track race

Also beats the Golf round wet track.

BUT 202kw and 0-100 in like 6.1secs doesnt seem right.

I think 6.1 sec sounds spot on for a manual fwd hatch that weights 1.5 tonnes (1480kg). The dual clutch version should in the high five second range. For comparison the current hot hatch benchmark the Honda Civic Type R hits 100km in 5.7 seconds but that has 228kw.

I can't wait to see it in a proper colour. I like blue cars, but baby blue? No thanks.

Looks like a great car for the money. It would be on my list of considerations for buying hot hatches.

Agreed.

Like Ford stealing the tail lights on the BA from the A6 Audi? Or the front lights from the A3?

It is what happens when designers move companies.

Lol... so that explains it. So when will the Koreans make the next stab at VAG and make a cut price car with Lamborghini styling

If it's not a barra or a V8 falcon or even Aussie built, it's rubbish don't you know

It's funny how the golf GTi is still the bench mark hot hatch when there are others that are just as good if not better ie megane RS, focus ST et al.

I think it is also the fact the GTi does everything well, whereas others do something really good but fall down on other areas.

That said I'd prefer a ST over the GTi.

Too true and for good reason.
The Golf GTi may be the boring ubiquitous stalwart in this segment - but its proven itself over a very long time.
When we recently purchased our Renault sport Megane GT - I test drove the GTi as well. Its an extremely capable bit of kit. It may not have the trinkets or flair of the Megane GT or the i30 or the Pug 308 Gti - but its still the one to pick for overall capability and its just so well sorted. Respect where its due.
The i30 looks great on paper - but its yet to prove itself out in the hands of the public over an extended time frame.
Looking forward to see real world commentary on the i30 for sure ......
Its off to a good start though with factory backing for some track days as per the link I posted up previously.

Saw a whole heap of these at the Port of Brisbane today in various colours. If I was looking for a hot hatch, they certainly look the goods.

Interesting that the tyre pressure monitor is lit up! Wonder what's going on there? Deliberately altered the tyre pressures, or couldn't be bothered checking them??

6.48 sec to 100km, that's pretty average, Motor recently got the VW Gti Performance to 100km in 6.0 seconds and that only has 185kw. I understand that people don't buy fwd hot hatches for 0 to 100 and quartermile times as that's not what they are about but that is a pretty slow time. As i said earlier in this thread they are pretty heavy for a fwd hot hatch (1.5 tonne) so that is no doubt hurting it a bit, none the less once moving these things are a weapon judging by all the reviews.

Tyres have come a long way. I doubt even a totally stock Phase 3 with modern rubber would be troubled on the 1/4 by the I30N. Or pretty much any other performance metric you wish to throw at it.

I'm interested to read your comments here roddy.

Have you personally had a bad experience with Hyundai vehicles which would tend to support your viewpoint or are you just going off what someone has told you?

We own two of them, and from time to time I have people tell me they would never own a Hyundai or Kia, however no one seems to be able to offer me a credible explanation as to why they think that way.

The older of our two is a 10-year-old i30 which has now covered 168000 trouble free kms and still drives nice and tight. It's really only had scheduled services and has been reliable as a hammer. I personally can't bag a car that's given me that sort of service. Maybe I got a good one!

As above, I'm genuinely interested in your comments.

Russ.
