Default 2012 Ford Focus ST LW reliability

I've done a search but it seems pretty quiet in this part of the forum with information.

I'm wondering on the reliability and general consensus on the LW ST? I've got an opportunity to get a low km one in immaculate condition and i'm just after some real world opinions?

Power, build quality, reliability?

Fuel is not an issue as my current car uses 18l/100km so it's going to be less than that.

Cheers,

Fordo

I had mine since new. I never had the engine loom replaced in my car but I know many that have. But the issue results the engine stalling from time to time or just a big rev drop when coming to a stop.
I had one warranty issue and that was the rhs rear door seal falling off, another lw focus issue.
Mine was essentially stock, 8.1L/100. Build quality fantastic mine never had a noise or rattle. If your after anymore info just drop me a pm. This is a page I'm an admin on https://www.facebook.com/groups/xr5stoc/

I can’t say too much on reliability. Had mine for two months now. Bought used with 60,000kms (2013 model), I have done 4000kms in that time.
The car has some rattles on rough roads, but the power, features, handling and comfort (for my slim build anyway) are all top notch. Decent on fuel also considering its power (although the more you push it.....). No glitches or reliability question marks at all so far.

I also couldn’t really find any reliability issues whilst researching, so honestly I think they are a safe buy providing you find a good example with service history.

I had mine for three years before trading it in.

The only issue i had was the wiring loom as pointed out in post #2, unfortunately that left a very sour taste in my mouth as Ford refused to cover it under warranty and I initially paid for it myself, before Ford eventually agreed to reimburse me.

https://fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11403733

Overall it was a very good car, it was my daily driver and did everything I asked of it without any issues, other than the wiring loom.

There's plenty of info available on overseas ST forums, which I suggest you read if you have not already done so, as that's where I got the info about the wiring loom. As they sell alot more of these in the states, there seems to be more info on issues.

Otherwise I really enjoyed the car and there are plenty of aftermarket options.

I've had mine since new and have now ticked over 101,000kms (Feb 2013 build). Only warranty claim was a new clutch pedal as the alloy cover fell off. I also had the right rear door sill rubber fall off on mine but was after warranty. Ford wanted $260 to replace as it was 'collapsed' but a panel beater friend of mine stuck it back on and there was nothing wrong with it (other than dodgy adhesive from the factory).

As said above, no rattles or anything like that. Great power and also great fuel economy at the same time. 5 years of trouble free and fun motoring.

What is the cost of the wiring loom issue to fix?
