They seem to respond pretty well to just the basics like tuning:
https://www.independentmotorsports.c...erritory-tdci/ Chuck a turbo back exhaust on it: http://www.mantapro.com.au/product/f...-turbo-diesel/ Bigger FMIC if they make one for it and go for the tune, I reckon it would probably do a good 140-150KW/wheels, its probably not turbo lag you are feeling in the Territory, it would be torque tags programmed into the ECU to smooth out throttle, so if you need to be trigger happy on the throttle at busy roundabouts you'll get the nothing nothing nothing nothing everything throttle going on - my TDCI Focus used to do the same thing until it was tuned. |

Is territory same engine as ranger, as they tune those up?

Different engine - Territory has a 2.7L V6 and the Ranger 3.2L I5.
The V6 is much more quiet and refined than the Ranger engine - I'd say the I5 would fail NVH tests for passenger vehicles. But they're both tuneable and both make decent gains with minor mods. Does the TDCI Territory have a variable geometry turbo or is it fixed? Last edited by Franco Cozzo; 22-09-2018 at 12:49 PM. |

Ever notice that when the soot starts you get no more power despite how hard you press the throttle? It's not bad driving, just most people haven't been taught. Look at a video of a big diesel doing a really, really cold start. Smoke and flames and crap flying everywhere. That's overfuelling. A current model GE V16 4000hp motor cold starting. https://youtu.be/RwTXr495BVw The governor hits the gas hard attempting to keep it running.

Agree. Max torque in a territory is at 1900rpm. Revving over about 3000rpm is just wasting fuel.

Regardless, I’m just sharing my experiences with both my diesel Territories. Wife and myself hated the driving experience of both the SZ & SZII so we got rid of them both, bought a petrol SZII instead and couldn’t be happier. Horses for courses! |

2014 RWD Titanium and absolutely love it, we bought it a couple of years ago and barely have a complaint, drives great, exceptional fuel economy on long trips and good economy around town, good for towing if required.

even cruising at 100 with a van in tow doesn't cause it to have a soot cloud. front of the van would be covered in soot. I've driven for over 5hours with a van in tow with no soot build up on the bumper or front of the van. the only time I get smoke from mine is under fairly heavy acceleration. same with those I've witnessed around the place.

If i was in the market for another one ... that's one place I'd look at first .... much cheaper than any of the Sydney metro dealer as well. Nothing was too hard for them.

yeah...I'm hoping aaronm was joking with his photo, as he surely can pick a Territory over an Audi station wagon.

Not as much as me. Average diesel is , slow, noisy, smelly. BUT good at towing and offroad 4WD.

I used to as well, in cars. Until I hesitantly bought my Territory when it was offered to me at a good price from my sister around two years ago now. Never did like the clatter of diesels, but with this I'm sitting inside where the subdued sound is quite pleasant when on the road, and not smelly at all. I love driving it, especially along the country roads and highways where it goes along eating up the kms without any fuss whatsoever. Love the car.

I am happy for you if your diesel makes you happy. ALL cars are great. Its how the individual feels about their car thats important.
We all like different things and everyones opinion is correct to them..

Admittedly it appears some diesel Territories are not driven in their ideal conditions, may be driven differently by different people and that different cars may drive differently for various reasons, and that each individual is different as you quite rightly point out, so opinions would vary. But its very easy to make generalisations as many here are doing, which was the reason for my post. |

Still love our AWD 2007 AWD Petrol Territory. Great combo with inline 6, AWD and ZF. The driveline will last hundreds of thousands of kms, with the price of maintaining the bushes, maybe a control-blade IRS rebuild, OEM spec tyres every 80,000km and regular fluid replacement.
For OP: I did a detailed maintenance reply in the Terry section on one of those "Should I buy" threads, that about sums it up. It's the best product Ford Oz ever produced here. The diesel Terry owners love theirs and they also avoid the DPF replacements and strange behaviour like on the 2.8 Prados... What to replace with? None of those FWD/Haldex SUVs will do: the petrol AWD Terry is full time AWD, all wheels powered all the time, very handy on snow and ice. Few of the SUVs out there handle like a Terry either. Maybe a Suby? But then you get a CVT transmission. Same type of vehicle bought today is either BMW X5, Jaguar F-Pace or the Porsche SUV. The decision is easy: buy a 2011 SYII AWD Territory and keep the 85k...

1 week in and only gripe is that sometimes the passenger front window wont go up or down from the master switch, same thing happened occasionally in my BF so obviously a common issue, just got to tap the passenger door window switch and it works again from the master.
Took it down to my local tyre shop Saturday to throw it on the hoist for a look underneath and discovered the front right has wear on the inner edge so with the Bathurst trip coming up next week and only having the factory 17's i thought its a good enough excuse to upgrade the lot to an 18" tyre and wheel package. Just got to convince the minister for finance so i'll let her pick the wheels and it should be over the line. Rear inner lower control arm pickup points have shiny new bolts in them so im assuming its had new bushes recently, definitely no knocks to be heard. Picked up a set of new cross bars for the roof rails off a mate who bought them and never fitted them to his SY. Grabbed a genuine Territory tinted bonnet protector and new radio mast today from Rebels. Booked in next week for tint, Octane on the front 2 and 20% on the rest. |

Yep Bent8 the window regulators (?that's what they are called? Dunno, it's late) were made cheaply, sometimes they will catch. Spraying some silicon in the window runners seems to keep ours free.

Put a set of 18x8 PDW Manic's in gloss black with machined face and a dashmat on it today.
http://www.pdwgroup.com.au/product/manic-machined/# Just the tint, a set of tinted visors for the side windows and floor mats and it should be ready for the big trip next weekend. |

Why the hell is it, so many times on this forum there is hit back and counter hit back. Why the hell cant we just accept that some people think and believe differently than ourselves.
It would be nice and also bloody impossible for someone to start a thread and to see it close nice & quietly without one person trying to punch out the other person. Iam sorry I even started this thread. Moderators I ask it be shut down. Really tempted to leave this whole forum.
