Any former AU mechanics out there ?
Following are pics of the rod that runs across the rear of the trans and goes to either side to support the exhaust. What are missing is the rubbers that wrap around the rod where it passes thru the 2 hangers. I believe the rubbers are spilt on one side so they can be opened to slide over the rod between the hangers before being pushed into the hangers. Mine had disintergrated due to the presence of trans fluid that had leaked mainly from the speedo sender and also buggered the rear mount which I replaced. A Ford parts guy says the rod and associated parts were listed as one assembly but is NLA. Is anyone aware of rubbers that were possibly used on other models (not necessarily for the same purpose) that would fit ? and a part number if possible. I have jammed some garden hose in there for the time being but would like to get the correct parts

Hi. Try going through the nolathane listing for sway bar "D" mounts by size and then if you find a bush that fits you can work out what its from and get a rubber bush to suit. Cheers MD

Thx. Can't find anything small enough but will try a few auto shops asking for D bush or cotton reel bush with my measurements at hand

I Have done 2 now. Nolathane Datsun 120y Swinging shackle bushes work a treat. Saw thru one side so you can slip it over the tube. I file one side of the stepped outer edge flat on the bench grinder.

Thx. Do you saw a cut with a hacksaw and then open the bush up to get it over the rod OR are you cutting away a section to get it over the rod, say 1/3 or close to a half. Being nolathane I wouldn't think you could spread it to get it over the the rod?

You do need to take the bracket off to bend 2 of the d bracket tabs back. Easy job and comes up great. Put the saw cut upwards to the bracket so as the bar is resting on the complete section of the bush. |
