If anyone is going to bring in a reasonably priced American Ute it would probably be Ram. Why would any other companies bring in a product that will eat into the profits of their Thai built models. There’s a lot more profit to be made when you pay Thai people $48 a day to build a $80,000 car.

The OP article indicated that there were 460 Rams on order and to cut the three month
waiting time to a month, they were going to three shifts. So that's increasing monthly output from 150 to 450, is this short term or more orders coming? |

Good on them, above my price point currently but I can see myself picking one up in the future used. 6 Seats, tray and 4x4, there is nothing else I need.

How much do these people get paid? I thought we were told Australian car manufacturing went bust because our workers demanded a livable wage.

Good to see demand for these big pick ups, seen a few getting around lately.
I was talking to a guy last week who just bought a 37ft fifth wheeler he and his misses are living in but have nothing to tow it with yet. They really like the RAM but want a duallie 2500-3500 sizes, looking at a bigger modified Chevy Silverado. 30-35 footers are become popular. car-ching....

Drives a nice SAR Sydney to Melb for a job. I personally would rather sink money into something like that scaled down K100 (FSR Isuzu) and gooseneck up around Wagga.

That's the only way that they could afford today's wages. Good on them, as long there is a market for these, those guys will have a job. Dr Terry |

Butchered is an understatement!!!!
The plenum vents and all the pedal/brake booster supports are spotted into place with a MIG, then sprayed with a rattle pack and gummed over with some deadener. Horrific... I thought theses vehicles have some kind of intetchangeability built into them? |

Anyone else hate the term 'pick-up' and/or 'truck' for a ute?

When I can buy a Ute again I'll use the term.

Wonder if it means the petrol 200 series would go from the 4.6 URJ to the 5.7?
If you read the upcoming 300 series rumours, URJ to be replaced with a 3.5V6 hybrid for the petrol version (Diesel remains). Tbh, this has some appeal, diesel economy without $1K per injector.

Some more news looking very, very good for Ram:
https://www.caradvice.com.au/763431/...v8-300-series/ People who have loved the big V8 Cruisers might go looking for that big V8 experience elsewhere. Ford, here is your total opportunity for F Series and the Explorer/Expedition... There was always this old mythos that if you won Bathurst you won auto sales and Ford and Holden fought for it hard. Meanwhile, Toyota quietly conquered the bush with the LandCruiser (displacing the Landrover), later cementing market leadership and building a very devoted customer base for the LandCruiser brand. If you want to win Australia, have the perception of the most reliable, tough, capable bush vehicle as your cornerstone.
