Default Bmw fgx?

Spotted a new BMW 8 series the other day, quite a gracefully styled car with arresting road presence.

The main reason it caught my attention though was because I initially thought it was a FGX Falcon such is the similarity of its DRL’s. Save for the central divider, even the upper grill outline share similarities.

There is even more than a hint of S550 Mustang in the C pillar and the way the boot-lid shut-line is cut.

Always interesting to see design similarities across different brands.

Possibly the same designer or design team?
It's been known to happen across several different manufacturers.

Yes; for example Alfa 164, Peugeot 605.

Are you sure? Nick Hogios was the traitor who designed the BA Falcon XR6 and went to Toyota and designed the Aurion Sportivo. Peter Schryer went to Hyundai/Kia from Audi.

BMW had the same lights on concepts dating back too 2009...general roof shape no different to countless other coupes...

It would be naive to believe designers, even those supposed to be purely European, don't look around at worldwide designs, both past and present, for 'inspiration'.

While Australians as a whole might not have appreciated the AU rear design, Mercedes Benz sure as hell did when they lifted it, and designed it into their CLS model.

Insofar as BMW's knowledge of our (now former) insular, locally-produced market; their engineers were on record for saying the Barra engine was second only to their own inline 6, as one of the best donks produced.
