Most of the rego these days is made up of insurance so I would image it should be on the car not the person.
There's plenty of people living in cities who have licences but don't own cars.

But this has nothing to do with club permits/rego.

Sure it does. One of the complaints in this thread is that people are abusing the club rego thingy. That is because the rego system is not fair. If you have a way of reducing your costs why wouldn't you utilise it? If you want to stop this practice you would have to change the way we pay for license and rego.

Those who are fortunate enough to have have classic cars on club registration do have a fair system considering what they are paying compared to normal registration.
If want have more than one daily driver vehicle then pay for it like anyone else.

The complaint is about crap cars on club rego and people abusing the system.

No problems. I hope I keep my car road worthy. I spend enough on maintenance.

Easy to Rort, nothing stopping a family of cars being registered to one person, in fact that already happens.
ie dads with kids cars registered under their name.

Just replaced the rear brake cylinders on the old girl coz one was weeping

in fact you don't even need a drivers licence to have a car registered in your name (in Vict anyway)

Same here in N.S.W.
Very common amongst "welfare dependant" families, the Ones without licences have the car in their Name. So when centrelink Rings up with an Appointment/interview, They Tell 'em either ;
A) I don't have a car or.
B) I don't have a Licence..& thus unable to Attend.

Yet they can still Drive to town to buy their Groceries, Grog & Cigarettes..

Very Common in the Rural Villages around here.

Sorry for the Hijack..

Based on Tassie argument, plenty of transport companies would like this.
I myself could pay $800 for a licence and have 6 trucks regoed at 50 bucks each +TPI, sound good. After all you can only drive one at a time.

I can just see all the car drivers jumping up and down about trucks not paying their way, blah blah blah.

The amount of taxes on grog and smokes - means we're just getting most of our money back and keeping the pimply faced teenage girl in a job at their local
