Default 80kmh suggested speed limits on unsealed country roads

Quote:
Call to lower country road speeds to 80km/h

The proposal to reduce speed limits on tens of thousands of kilometres of country road follows a 2018 report by the International Transport Forum that studied data from 10 countries including Australia.

It suggested any country road without a median barrier should have a 70km/h speed limit.

The report found that crashes, injuries and fatalities decreased when speed limits were dropped and speed camera use increased
https://motorbikewriter.com/lower-country-road-speeds/

What an absolute joke, I live out in Boganistan and traverse 30km worth of a country highway every morning, it already has flogs doing 80km/h in a 100 zone holding everyone up.

Imagine if they dropped the speed limit to 80km/h? They'd be doing 60 instead.

Might be riding my carbon neutral unicycle to work sooner than I expected

Default Victoria to drop country highway limits from 100 to 80

The Nagambie - Heathcote road without sealed shoulders close large tree butts and too narrow for LCA to work consistently is safe under all conditions at 80 but is 100 limited.
I suspect the locals and their councillor(s) know every corner intimately and the ‘real men’ principle applies.

Not my handywork, I'm pretty good at creating propaganda and emotionally manipulating people so I would do a much more believable job if this was my work - Fake News Franco

Could be worse - Adelaide's 25km/h speed limit for school zones, carbon neutral unicycle territory.

The problem is the drop kicks that crash will still crash. They don't care about road rules now so why would they start caring about an 80 limit.

Lower speedlimits isn't a good solution - they've done it with the Tullamarine Freeway, what happens is the majority of us still do 100km/h in the 80 zones now, but you weave around slower moving traffic across all 6 lanes inbound - I'm waiting for it to appear on the news about people ignoring the speed limit because its not just me its happening in big numbers now between Essendon Airport and Flemington Rd exit.

All it does is promote more phone usage.

In the morning when you get the slowpokes on my rural section of the commutes you end up with this:

Theres a few cars bunched up behind a slowpoke who won't move over for faster moving traffic to pass, so you end up needing to chop a whole heap of cars in one hit and thats why our silly country highway becomes a 'blackspot'.

A lot of problems would be solved with keeping left and more consideration for other road users - move over for faster moving traffic.

People want to play pretend policeman though and they'll try block you from getting past - but suddenly they speed up in the overtaking lanes

They keep touting this 'towards zero' strategy in Victoria:

https://www.towardszero.vic.gov.au/

Including speed limit reductions of course.

At the end of the day out of 6.3M of us Mexicans if there's approximately 300 people dying every year on our roads then that's more than acceptable - it works out to be a 'problem' that only effects 0.0005% of our population per year.

Sounds like something is getting a disproportionate amount of government funding - its like the white ribbon campaign, tax payer funded scam.

We don't even need the TAC - cut all their funding, waste of our money chasing unicorns.

The funnest way to deal with f*wits who speed up at the overtaking lanes is to get up along side them in the right lane... and then stay there and match their speed till they run out of road. They either have to stop or run off the road. It's even better if you have the line behind you so the F*wit has no opportunity to merge back in.

It's all about Driving to the actual Road Conditions, NOT driving to the (Posted) Speed Limit..!!!

There's a few Sealed Roads where 80kmh is Too fast to be safe, & a fair few Gravel roads where 120kmh is perfectly safe...

The average "joe" who spends most of their Driving in "Urban Crawl" going to & from Work have absolutely NFI when they get out on some Open Road.......

I don't recommend playing games on the road at all but they will come over into your lane regardless tho, that's the type who drive along at 80 regardless, come 60 they still do 80 but the only time that they speed up is on overtaking lanes. they are just like that old cartoon Mr Magoo totally oblivious to everything but they are ok.

I seen some old Magoo twerp once on TV news who drove a VW Combi sprouting that he had never drove over the speed limit ever and boasting that he never had a crash. I remember saying yes but how many have you caused ya great goose.

It's not so much the speed that is the point but the ignorance that is the main problem, sure one can sit under the limit but that's not what it's all about, it's about being logical and doing the responsible and correct things that really count.
Someone could overtake me way over the speed limit in some situations and I could not give a rats, but the real tossers are not them so much, but the ignorant twats who are oblivious to everything but speed like many Volvo drivers were once, you would be like look out for this moron and it was in fact true they were really bad drivers.

You're not wrong there, everytime someone up the queue misses a light change or dawdling along in the right hand lane it's a flipping Subaru with some incompetent old banger hanging on for grim death...

The genius that annoys me the most ATM is the one who has put speed humps at traffic lights on a duel lane road near me, so even when obeying a green light, I have to drop 20 to 30 ks off my speed just to get through the intersection while I avoid cars behind me who wanna plow up my starfish..... You sir.. Are a greenies muppet.

It's all up Dalton Rd. It's a 60 zone (which is too low) but if you go over the speed hump Any more than 30 you know about it.

Mind you Cooper and high at you see stuff all over the intersection as it's flown off utes and trailers onto the road.

I do that as well (sit half car length in front so there's an even chance they'll see me)

The 140kph to match their increased lane speed is a bit of a worry but once there it's pure joy.

Of course then we have the theatrics of flashing headlights, hands in the air, etc, as they merge behind.

I originally thought they were just dicks but it's actually worse than that.

They genuinely have no clue as to their own driving and how we arrived at the point where they've been inconvenienced by the inconsiderate overtaker
