Question Any hidden instrument cluster features for the BA

The EL AND EF had Hidden Cluster functions Digital speed etc
You had to hold the [MODE] button down while starting the car
Is there anything like that with the BA-XT?

i could be going 100km/h on the dial where the digital speedo shows exact speed which might be 96km/h.

There is a "Police" mode available for the BA\BF Which gives you a digital speed reading in the trip computer display on the non-premium sound version of the cluster. But you forfeit most of the trip computer readouts. It has to be enabled via the Ford Service computer.

I would assume it's only about 15 minutes work, so in theory it shouldn't cost more than $30 or so. But don't quote me...

I cant comment on the cost of doing it on a Ford, however the same thing was and is available on the Comm's and I had mine switched over to Police Mode, and it cost me nothing...Just some ammo if you wanted to challenge your local ford Dealer for charging for the "privledge"

So, you are expecting the dealer to book the car, get the tech to spend 1/4 to 1/2 an hour with a WDS worth thousands, and not charge you something for it? :

I wouldnt be surpised if all they were doing was flicking a software switch or something.

On VS/VTs, dont you just hold a button down while turning on the car to get it to work?

My brother in Law does it all the time to his fathers car..

Avg and Instant fuel consumption are more important that a digital speedo - they tried digital years ago but it has been canned. Why?? When you read the speedo while driving, you are not actually reading, but rather you can see where the needle is relative to where it was or should be (this can be done subconsciously, have you ever noticed how you can be sitting on the speed limit for hours at a time without thinking to read the speedo) Digital speedo's obviously lack any physical position/size change relative to roadspeed and thus actually have to be read. Sorta understand??

Anyway. Can this be done on cars with premium sound (trip functions on the ICC). So loosing something thats not in the dash doesnt really matter. i would rather see what the true speed is rather than the needle.

Try this. It may take you a couple of try's to get in.

the diagnostic mode can be entered by using the following method
1) With the ignition key in the off position, turn the Ignition Key to the On Position.
2) Using the Odometer Button, Press the Odometer Button Down, then release 5 Times within 10 Seconds (Note : You must be very accurate with the timing. Depress the Button for 1 second, then release for 1 second. Do this 5 Times in 10 seconds)
3) Release the Odometer Button for 5 seconds.
4) Depress the Odometer Button for 7 Seconds.
5) Release the Odometer Button for 5 Seconds.
6) Depress the Odometer Button for 7 Seconds.

You should now be within the AU Instrument Cluster Diagnostic Mode

Within Diagnostic mode, there are 19 Diagnostic Screens that are available.
At the moment we do not have enough information as to what all the screens actually are.
To Exit the Diagnostic mode, Depress the Odometer Button for 11 seconds.

Then these are all the modes. each time you press the button it will change the mode.

Yes.. there is software that can read Canbus and I2C..

Forget which Ford used. I have heard of it being done.

Most likely why there aren't any secret dash functions..

Ford should incorporate some sort of technology in the cluster that will monitor & detect highway patrol vehicles incoming... that'll be so cool. press this button and that button and you get into this mode.
