Makes me laugh when I read about the "Johnny come lately" green warriors.
Wow, who ever thought you could get a battery to power your house when the power went off. After seeing that Cybertrophytruck I've changed to ban them all.

I'd say $14K probably wouldn't cover it adequately IMO, take into account not every day is going to give you good generation from solar panels, you probably should be on the bigger side rather than smaller. Last edited by Franco Cozzo; 30-11-2019 at 08:08 AM. |

the government used useful idiots to ban alcohol (feminists)
hence why it isn't used fully..

On the Yacht years ago, we had a solar panel, wind generator, 2 x 12v batts, and the trusty Honda generator, IIRC that come in well under 14k .

at least i have some ingals if i need to resort to that and im more than happy with my solar power and solar hot water systems havent needed to fire up the gen-y in years now , but talking bout it must go check it still runs and give it a service clean up b/day treatment for just incase

My old man is still running 32 volt power with a diesel genny and a few banks of batteries to this day... He was looking into a wind genny in the early 80's when I was a pup... But gave it up and just added more batteries. You only have to run the generator every few days to charge the batteries, so i guess he is ahead of his time... Environmentally speaking.

My point about batteries is a generator is much cheaper. Older fridges cut in and out so the big draw is during the capacitor start, but a 10 amp generator should start one every time no worries. Last edited by GasoLane; 30-11-2019 at 05:03 PM. Reason: Should know better |

Like A.Con most frigs have a hard start. Even though a small genset can run it, kicking it into life is another thing.
The low amps drain previously mentioned is quite high at start up / cycling and extremely inefficient for a permanent RAP system. Also depends on if the genset produces square wave power or sine wave power not just its peak power output. My place is offgrid hence the wind generator previously mentioned. My workshop / backup genset is a bio diesel powered 8Kva 8Kva would only be its peak ability to start stuff, continuous would be more like 5. it would be fun charging an electric vehicle at my place.. N.B Which will bring us back on topic.

And that is why a selection of EV's in a brand line up are important. The EV's reduce the average accross the range, meaning the ICE cars get a free kick. And enthusiasts think EV's are bad.

I heard someone say once that cars saved the horse. Took them from often abused utility animals to enthusiast pets.
When we did NZ in 09 we got "upgraded" to a pious (not a spelling error). One of the worst cars I've ever driven. The brakes were absolutely dangerous, no rear visibility, ergonomic disaster. The funny thing is the corolla we had on the second half of the holiday gave better fuel economy. It by comparison was an utterly fantastic car, certainly the nicest toyota I've driven. |
