I want to cancel the radio code on my 2001 KQ laser. The manual says to hold the auto memory button and the channel preset button no. 6 at the same time until code appears. Nothing happens though!. I can't cancel it if i can't enter it to start with..why isn't it working ?

Do you have the right code to start with? Why do you want to cancel it or is the code you have giving you error?

very slight chance if you remove the radio it could have the pin on a sticker of the unit, if it had been repaired before. Otherwise good luck asking your local ford dealer with the vin number

Hi. Yes i do know the code. I plan to disconnect the battery and don't want to go through this problem and have the radio lock up. The owner's manual says that you can cancel the code.

The radio should not lock up if you have the right code! I don't think you are able to cancel the code, could be wrong though.

If power to the radio is interrupted then it does lock up. According to the manual you can cancel the security code. I don't want to disconnect the battery and then have trouble entering the code.

Yes it locks up in terms of requiring the code, but if you have the code and enter it correctly it should be no issue. Its only if you have the wrong code (or the right code incorrectly entered) that it becomes an issue. I have never heard of anyone having issues with the right code.

I've also never heard of cancelling the code. Are you sure the manual isn't referring to clearing an incorrect code that has been attempted ?

Still not sure if I did this correctly. I've posted a picture from the user's manual and uploaded it onto the gallery on this site.

Thanks for that MD. I posted the picture half correctly. Yeah I understand that it will lock you out if the wrong code is put in. Both the auto memory button and the channel preset buttons work as they should, but the word "code" doesn't come up when I press them together.

I'm tempted to disconnect the battery, but am worried that it still may not work and then I will be locked out.
