Default LOW OCTANE E10 -United

It appears that United have downgraded their E10 from 95 Octane in Melbourne and 94 Octane in NSW & QLD.
I have just returned from a trip to Mackay and back towing a caravan and needed at least 95 Octane. I had used Uniteds E10 in Melb. in early March.
It appears by the start of April in Qld. the reduction had started.
In Maitland NSW I asked what the Octane rating was after seeing 91on the bowser and 4c less than standard unleaded.
The rest of my trip I looked at each United and saw all the 94/95 's had been removed from the pumps but NO other signs to say what the rating was. I asked at times and was given a range of answers - none correct.
It seems like something is going on.
We have a United Company account but have received no advice whatsoever.
Anyone else know anything.
Might have to check the engines on some of my cars.

Yes...its **** fuel and the 4cents you save you end up burning due to in- efficiency of the **** fuel itself!!!!!!!

The sad truth about E10 is that its worth has been oversold since day one.
95 RON Petrol - RON 95 MON 85
Regular petrol - RON 91-92, MON 82-83
ETHANOL RON 108.9 MON 89.8

those oil companies calling E10 RON 94 have been using the upper limit of regular petrol to achieve that,
using minimum values for regular fuel, E 10 becomes RON 93 MON 83, not enough for a vehicle that
needs RON 95

That's what you get by buying bottom rung fuel from a company like United. It's like buying dinner from maccas, and complaining about the quality.

Fair chance their fuel comes out of the same big refinery tanks as all the other fuel suppliers!!!

I must add that we have not had any problems with United Fuel in the Past.

We have had a United Card fuel account for our Transport business for over 10 years.
The issue I am raising is they seem to have downgraded their E10 from 95/94 Octane to as low as 91 ??? without telling anybody ???

It might all come from the same refinery but there are quite a few "Additives" different companies shandy with.

NSW Highway Patrol use E10 in the XR6 Turbos.

Their website indicates United Unleaded E10 is 95 octane.

Any of those cheaper fuels always leave a green sludge in the fuel system, if old carby setup and you don't drive for a month or two the fuel goes off and leaves a thick green coating in the float bowl. The car will not do as many K's per litre as it does with premium, I've had up to 20% difference between the two, only use premium in everything now even lawn mower.

Why isn't there any green sludge in my E10 fuel cans?

I have seen this with BP some years ago that started off with E10 94 octane and then their was E10 91 at other BP Stations you had to be careful. I filled up the wife's Aurion and with E10 91 octane, from E10 94 octane and boy did I know it, it was just like running 91 octane unleaded.
The V6 in the Aurion with 91 octane looses a lot of power over using E10 94 octane he difference is amazing.
Any alloy head engine with a compression like 10:1 and over needs to run on 94 or 95 octane at least, the cars built from 2010 on need to run higher than the crap 91 octane at least to perform at their peek efficiency and anything less than 94 octane is making your computer retard the spark timing, it may not be all the time or maybe some engines it will and your fuel economy drops due to this and it has less performance, the car says it will run on 91 with no problem, but that's only their to sell the car because people do not want to fork out for 95 octane, but that's what most cars from 2010 should be running on.

Australia was going to get 95 octane and 91 was to get the flick, but PM Jewlier Dillard knocked that on the head because of the state of the worlds 2008 problems. So ADR laws did not go ahead as was planed and we are stuck with 3rd world rubbish 91 fuel.

All bowsers should have the octane rating on them by law but they don't always in QLD, but we have a total idiot Premier controlling the State.
you could easy destroy a engine by thinking that all E10 was 94 octane, my carby bike has 13.5:1 and I can run 95 and I have ran E10 94 in it, but if I were to fill up with 91 no way it will blow up, I have asked in the shop what octane it is before hand and got back that they did not know.
I run 98 in the bike but that's not every where I have found at times out bush.

They can sit around for 12 months or more, as I have a number of them.
It makes great weed killer.
Seriously, never encountered any sign of green sludge in any of these cans.

Have encountered a sludge in the bottom of carburetor bowls, when the engine hasn't been run for extended periods where the fuel has evaporated.
However this was using a 32:1 2 stroke mix.
But it wasn't E10, it was VP Racing Fuel C10 & Avgas.

I'd say it's still 95 Octane

Can't believe the rubbish talk about 'cheap' fuels. Standards are mandated and fuel is subject to govt testing.
By all means go pay top price from one of the majors but don't dismiss United or similar based on your own perceived bias

I frequently fill cars at the same “budget” servo as the local HWP. Figure it makes the playing field more level.
