Diesel Particulate Filter. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bOlDFFhuPM and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yop_WFCHvuc

It's a part of the exhaust emissions system that collects the soot for a few hundred K's then burns it off. It can block up eventually and not function properly, how many K's do you have on your wagon?

Yep - diesel particulate filter.
If something causes your engine to run rich it block the filter early. But there should be a warning specific to it, so it is another long shot.

It shouldn't be a problem at that km, but if you have a turbo issue or boost leak, it can cause overfueling, which can cause a build up in the dpf.
BUT there should be a related fault code. Something to do with pollution system or exhaust pressure, or similar.
As I said, a long shot, but possible.
The "adblue" stuff is supposed to help the burn off.

Further to my original post I would like to state that my engine does not stall but seems to be reverting to idle. This is now happening when rounding a roundabout and turning right. It also has disconnected cruise a couple of times. Engine comes back to normal within a short time.

Wondering if it has something to do with the throttle control.

I've also been getting the odd "Battery low" warning.
Any ideas please.

The owner's manual states Cruise control is only active when the speed is over 30km/h, if that's relevant.

If it only does it when turning right the only thing I can think of
is low transmission fluid level or wiring movement.

Best plug in an obd scanner to start with.
Plenty of help on that here if needed.

Thanks for reply.

Cruise was at 100kph
Car serviced by Ford 5000k back. No sign of fluid leaks.
Will get scan done asap.

I have experienced a similar thing happening with my 2013 MC tdic Wagon.
However the engine didn't switch off, the throttle reverted to idle, so was at least able to coast to a stop. The vehicle was traveling at 100kph in cruise. This happened so far twice in same situation.
Have only had the car 3 months and traveled 3000+ kms.
It not going into limp mode is it? Was there any warning lights on the dash?

If you're running out of ideas:

If the scan shows no fault I'd be plugging a wireless OBD adapter in and Forscan on the phone. When next it happens then you can pull over and take a look BEFORE SWITCHING IGNITION OFF. Sometimes the code disappears when ignition is turned off.

Transmission oil may not have been filled properly.

I've have gear change glitches turning right on roundabout, but level was ok. I think it sloshes over. I don't know if it can affect engine function, just a thought.

Thanks for your replies 'aussiblue' and 'rondeo'
No noticable warning lights and don't think it was going to limp as accelerator was non responsive.
I have aquired a OBD2 device which I will try out when time permits.

Fluid levels still a possibility.

Beginning to think electronic or whatever you call it, throttle control may be involved.

I've just remembered one accasion when I was swinging left out of a roundabout.

Sounds a bit like limp mode to me as it drastically restricts engine rpm in limp mode.

Thanks for reply.

Didn't realise it restricts that much. However if it is limp I suppose there's a multitude of causes!
Fortunately so far this 'mode' has only lasted seconds, be them very stressful and embarrassing seconds.
What about cruise switching off? ('Resume' does switch it back on normally.)

Car throttle reverting to idle or limp mode more and more often.
Scan using cheap device shows no codes.
Thinking it may be electronic throttle control.

Any comments welcome.

Forscan shows accelerator pedal signals.

Adapters recommended by the Forscan team:

https://forscan.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6142

I use OBDLink MX with Forscan on phone.

I'd also check the throttle position.

Per https://australiancar.reviews/review...Mondeo&gen=256
Quote:
Released in July 2009, the Ford MB Mondeo introduced a revised line-up and improved equipment levels. The sedan models were discontinued, though wagons were introduced and powered by the 2.3-litre petrol engine for LX and Zetec variants. The TDCi variant was also discontinued, though the more powerful turbo-diesel engine was offered in the Zetec and newly-introduced Titanium variants.
So just double checking is it a "2010 Ford Mondeo TCDI MB". EDIT: Oops; forget it I see the OP has wisley sold his car since.
