Did they use Production Utes in the V8 Ute Series?

Yes. Just prepped for racing with gutted interiors, roll cage etc.

if you mean the early AU/VU utes then they were even registered, my brother was head mechanic for one and he got to take the cars home a few times and we may or may not have driven them around

Yes and no, they had restrictions on power tuning I believe to set parity between the 5.0L Falcon ute and the 5.7L Commodore ute.

So they were not off the production floor nor was exhaust or brakes.

The Falcon 5.0L did well and with leaf rear springs, just goes to show that the leaf springs in them utes are not as bad as most ignorant idiots will always claim.
