Default Car cover -To use or Not on dark cars.

Who uses a car cover and would you recommend a specific brand for use on black car?

Wanna keep dust off and protect it as much as possible but avoid scratches and scuffs.

I have been using CoverCraft for a number of years. Ford even offered CoverCraft covers as options for Sprint's.

CoverCraft are now sold through Car Accessory World in Australia.
https://www.caraccessoryworld.com/fa...submodel=13165

These covers are tailored to the exact shape of the vehicle rather than being a somewhat generic cover. Aim for the FormFit for the softest material on the paint. You can also choose the material cover.

The very best option is a carcoon, it also keeps mice etc out of the engine bay and therefore no damage to the wiring loom - car is as clean as the day you put it in....even after 12 months

I have used Autotechnica. Really good but difficult to put on.

I second the carcoon option.

Car covers can be a phaf to put on and take off. This is is how I manage to do it -

Firstly, unhook the cover from the front and back bumpers.

Fold the left and right hand sides of the cover to form a strip down the center of the vehicle, making sure the inner material is faced outwards.

Then roll the cover up. I find rolling towards the base of the windscreen is the easiest way.

Work smoothly and carefully, no tugging!

Putting on the cover is a reverse of this process, rolling the cover back towards the boot, folding outwards then tucking the cover over the wing mirrors and bumpers.

Doing it this way makes putting it back on much easier because you don't need to guess which end is which, avoiding fumbling and potentially causing inadvertent damage by dragging it across to the paint.

Thats exactly how I do it DFB They can be a pain to put on waxed cars.
I use the light weight nylon types as a dust cover only. If the cars were subject to any weather I'd splash out on the padded, fitted type to avoid scuffing the paint.

Car covers should only be used on clean cars btw.

Nice red Stang. I have the same colour but with the silver wheels. I was wondering - did you have any paint protection/product put on it, or what do you use for wax/polish?

Hmmm, well how long have you got?

https://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11469805

Short answer, the Mustang currently has Collinte 845 wax topped with NV Nova Jet. https://www.fordforums.com.au/showpo...&postcount=736

I cycle through a few different wax's and sealants as I enjoy the trial and error part of detailing. If I didn't get a kick out of regular wax/coating applications, I would have either CarPro CQuartz UK 2020 or GTECHNIQ Crystal serum light applied.

I originally ordered my Mustang with the Nickle Lustre (silver) wheels but changed to black with the idea the black wheels would be different to what I would be used to.

Yes but if most people with Mustang GTs have black wheels, isn't it better to get something that stands out as being different?

When I take photos of mine it never seems to show up the shine as well as your photos. Even though it looks good in person, the photos never seem to do it justice. I just use Meguiars Tech Wax 2.0 and nothing else. Is that good?

I had never had black wheels up to that point so I was trying something different.

Tech Wax is a synthetic paint sealant the also has the ability to "visually eliminate fine swirls and micro-scratches". I'm not sure if that means it has a mild polishing element or if it has fillers to hide swirls, either way it is a nice choice. I used this on my XR6 for years and loved the smell and glossy, wet look to the paint.

I think us detail geeks tend to get hung up on boutique car car products all the while companies like Meguiar's just keep on keeping on. The main thing to focus on however is if you like how the product works and looks, then keep using it.
