I’d order an XA ute in Wild Plum.
GS pack, buckets, air, steer, 351 4 speed. And an XA GT sedan in Aluminium. Air, steer, glass, auto. Definitely no sunroof. Maybe white vinyl roof. |

Back when I was still in high school, the neighbors daughter had a boyfriend who had a bright yellow HQ Sandman van with a set of polished fat Cheviot Triden wheels. It had a 308 4sp and had been fitted with twin fuel tanks with fillers on both sides for double the range when traveling, and had chromed wind deflectors fitted at each back corner. The thing gave me a woody the first time I laid eyes on it, that's the one I'd go back for.

My uncle had a green Sandman.
I was pretty envious but couldn't show it because I was born in the Ford corner. The one thing that stood out from the other Sandmans was a previous owner had changed out the round headlights to a rectangular pair, almost certainly from an LH Torana but I was pretty young and might be mistaken. Didnt look bad, but didnt look right either. |

Yep, very much like that. From memory the rectangular lights were a bit smaller than this pic but yes, same deal. |

If I had access to my younger self I would have bought an XB GT Sedan in burnt orange for $8500 in the late 90's.. also selling a VK Director for 18k in 2008
I would have convinced him to buy a new FGII F6 in 2014 Would still love a Phase 3 or XA GT RPO Sedan, will always be up there on the lotto list |

When i was on my P's id daily my brothers wb ute. He was on a monster driving ban. That thing had the wb caprice front, mirrors, lower ally side trim and caprice interior. It was a cool car in the early 2000s. It was midnight blue and had been swapped for an efi 304 and 4 speed auto. It didnt handle the greatest, and compared to modern cars now, it wouldnt be considered quick, but it was at the time. It did look the part though.
