Chairman's Award: Chairman's Award - Issue reason: Your outstanding contributions to this community have not gone unnoticed. IN my view you are a worthy recipient of the (rarely used) Chairman's Award.
Default A Few Days Early?

Unbelievable; I understand the desire not to unthinkingly destroy something without quantifying all that it might enable - but the popular language this is couched in, offers potential for the readily-offended to be, yet again, offended.

What resources are there on the moon?

And how could it be economically viable to mine resources there, and send them back to earth? Costs would be astronomical.

I wanted to be an astronaut but my parents wouldn't allow it...when I was growing up they used to continually tell me I could do what I want, the sky is the limit. Unsupportive bastards!

Therefore, it’s important to preserve the moon in case you do become an astronaut!

I certainly (subconsciously) view it as a territory of the Untied States - whether right or wrong - and presume that country would act more militaristically than others if it were to feel such a position challenged.

Costs are also huge to send stuff from earth to the moon. If you can get it from the moon or asteroids then you can mine it and use it there.

One immediate resource they will need is water

Its not so much about bringing too much back.

If there is a lot of water, that means you have a lot of hydrogen and oxygen. Get a few solar panels up there and you can have a rocket fuel factory on the moon, great place to refuel after leaving earths main gravity ( escape velocity is more than 4 times faster from the earth rather than the moon, and there is very little atmosphere to contend with).

It's not as dumb as it sounds - the Moon is pretty important with tides and all that stuff and we don't want it falling on us because some knucklehead used too much explosive when mining it

Same goes for the rest of our solar system - don't mess up your own backyard

Now, the rest of the galaxy/Universe... well that's open slather as far as I'm concerned and I'd say that there isn't anyone else to tell us otherwise.
