Copied from another forum.
Mr. Allen Swift: Born - 1908 - Died 2010. This man owned and drove the same car for 82 years. Can you imagine even having the same car for 82 years? Mr. Allen Swift (Springfield, Massachusetts) received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Piccadilly-P1 Roadster from his father, brand new - as a graduation gift in 1928. He drove it up until his death last year... At the age of 102. He was the oldest living owner of a car that was purchased new. Rolls Royce Phantom I 1928 It was donated to a Springfield museum after his death. It has 1,070,000 miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch, dead silent at any speed and is in perfect cosmetic condition. 82 years - That's approximately 13,048 miles per year (1,087 per month). 1,070,000 that's miles not kilometers. That's British engineering of a bygone era. I don't think they make them like that anymore.

Wonder how much pollution he saved by not buying the latest car every few years.

Hi guys,
This is not really the same thing as this man hadn't owned his car for 82 years but i have to tell this story. In 2015 my wife and myself went to Perth Via Adelaide we drove to Adelaide and left the car at the Airport and flew over the Perth. On the way to Adelaide we stopped at the National Motor Museum at Birdwood in South Australia. There was a 1980 Holden HZ Kingswood SL Sedan 4.2 Litre V8. It was purchased new in 1980 and in 1996 the owner had died. the car had only 998kms on it when he died. |

I think the emissions of creating a new one roughly equal the lifetime emissions that it will belch out? That's a substantial saving if so. And food for thought when work gives you a new car on another 3yr novated lease... think of the polar bears on the shrinking ice...
