Default Power Window - Auto Down

Following the recent thread about power windows and swapping plugs etc, it got me thinking, can I replace all my switches with an AUTO switch like the driver side, so when someone lets off, I can get some air fast, with out having to reef my whole fist on the panel.... you all know what I mean....

Also, is it possible to make it auto up as well as down?

Its ADR, in order to have an auto up, you must include some sort of safeguard that will stop the auto up and go back down, when something gets in the way. (like a childs or drunk persons neck)

The easiest way is to get parts from another falcon that uses the same regs and motors etc as yours but has the auto function. Other than that, perhaps just go a custom jobbie, Jaycar should be able to help you, with a 888 timer, resistors, relays switches, and tap into all the down switches of the power windows. So you can hit a button you put in the dash and all the windows will wind down for 8 seconds or however long it takes. Make sure it is accurate so that the down function stops just as the glass stops, that way you don't burn your pw reg/wiring.

Let us know how you go and maybe do a little writeup for aufalcon.com.

I want to do this for the front passenger window, because i always open the drivers and the front passenger windows when driving, it is just a pain to have to hold the left switch down...

Cheers,
Michael

It's just a detente in the actual switch itself. It sort of clicks in and holds, and when the window reaches all the way down, it unclicks. Wouldn't be hard to do, but it would be expensive. You can't buy just a drivers switch from Ford, you have to buy a complete set, and it is my understanding that the set of 2 (Forte etc) is actually more than a set of 4 (XR, Fairmont etc). Based on prices of the switch panel when I looked at replacing a broken one a year or so ago, this little mod would cost in the order of $300! Easier to hold the switch for 4 seconds, I reckon.

When I had my drivers switch apart to change to leds I remember seing a microswitch which sits under the front of the actual button you push, so when you push it to a certain point it works as per normal, but when you push it to that second detent it pushes down on the microswitch.

If it is the microswitch which activats the auto down I cant imagine it being easy to fit a microswitch to each of the other 4 buttons. Not to say it cant be done tho

4 seconds it is! LOL! But if you really lube the window up well, you could do it in 3.5!
