Chairman's Award: Chairman's Award - Issue reason: Your outstanding contributions to this community have not gone unnoticed. IN my view you are a worthy recipient of the (rarely used) Chairman's Award.
Default Slightly Unsettling

I’d resigned myself to a jury call-up, figuring a three week case divided by a six week holiday was bearable and might get me off the roll for a few years, if not forever. Start date Tuesday 7th.

Tonight I figure, better call the automated line to check all systems go. I hear “Your application to be excused, has been accepted”… I made no application to be excused.

So I logged into the website to double check. Same response, my application to be excused was accepted on 2/12. Seriously, what?

Is this the normal (inaccurately worded) response when a matter does not proceed to trial by jury? Or did the recent hospitalisation automatically disqualify me? I made one phone enquiry on 26/11 about the service period, in which I explicitly stated I was not seeking to be excused, and from memory didn’t even give my juror ID.

I’ve pushed jobs around and let another bloke have a fat one (easy and lucrative) to keep the customer smiling. What a year; three months when we were locked on the spot, give or take, now I’m willing to give my relative freedom in exchange for civic duty and the government isn’t making it exactly clear on why I am suddenly redundant.

We asked him if the engine had actually been called “Seagull” and how that came about.
“Actually it was just call “Gull”, because I named it that. Because we knew it was going to poo on everything”.

***** was an active solicitor and was so dodgy.

(Not as dodgy as some of the people called up for expert evidence - geez there's some terrible people around talking 100% shyte, in they are in our courts helping make decisions)

He looked very dark when verdict was read out. They weren't ugly graphic but those photos stay with you.

Seriously the amount of hours and days wasted in those buildings for the tiniest of reasons is beyond ridiculous. How they manage to finish even one thing is impressive.

I am also apparently ineligible to serve as result of previously being a volunteers small business mentor working with prisoners.

After 25 minutes on hold, finally received some answers. Of course, it’s the fault of Monsieur Covid.

As F71 intimated, this reasoning/wording is their “nearest fit” for not needing someone right now, but not taking them off the current roll of eligible jurors.

I explained that having had two pieces of sensitive mail go missing recently, it was not much of a jump in supposition to wonder if someone was playing mind games or trying to consolidate an assumption of my identity. I don’t feel my point registered well enough and will seek to reiterate.

I did a rape trial a few years ago.
The perpetrator was found guilty on 2 counts.
It was extremely interesting but also obviously painful for the victim having to relive the experience.

One thing I hate is that if the perpetrator defends himself he gets a chance to question and cross examine the victim, I just find that being allowed as despicable and a disgrace to the Westminster System of Justice

How terrifying for the poor victim, it's a shocker

Hi Guy's
i was on Jury Duty about 20 year's ago in Sydney. The case was a sexually assault of this girl by her step father.
After hearing hour's and Hour's of evidence every day, we got to the last day which was a Friday and the mother was on the stand who was this guy's wife.

She was asked a question by the Judge, answered the question and then decided to add something else she wasn't even asked by the judge.

He told the jury to leave the Court and then called us back and told us
Due to what Mrs X said there will be a retrial next year and he thanked us and that was it.

How many thousand's of dollar's a day would that have cost?
