XA with 7.3L Godzilla

Would be an issue getting it past emissions testing I reckon - you'd probably need to scab the engine management system out of a stacked converted and complianced F250 as thats the only vehicle in our market using that engine.

If you’re spending that much money on a road registered vehicle, sourcing an OEM harness and ECU is no big issue, you just can’t go down to your local wrecker and get one.

Its not the money its the factory tune to meet current emissions standards which is what you want to get your hands on - which is probably why you need to get it from an F250 so you can just go through the emissions test once and pass it.

What is the rules around engine conversions - you can't go older than the body of the car and if you go newer it needs to meet the emissions of the newer vehicle you got the engine from.

I know this what is called splitting hairs, but if you import a brand new crate motor it has never been in a vehicle, how do the rules work please?

What happens if you import and engine from a country that has little or no emission regulations?

The Steering shaft position and Exhaust has always been the issue with the Territory
The only V8 one I know of was was a Falcon Chassis with Territory Body, which I don't think was road legal

perhaps this can be overcome with Turbos, take a look at the Miami XW in the build section and see what modifications are involved

FTG Auto Salvage who used to be a sponsor here on AFF did a 5.4L 4V into a Territory and got it engineered as well, there was a thread on here about it back in the day, not sure if its still around.

And the emission levels on an F250 are way less strict than light vehicles,
they don’t actually do a full smog cycle test ya know…

That Territory ended up with Falcon crossmembers, suspension and (rear mount) steering rack to accept the 5.4l and I still don’t know how it got rego with E-series offset wheels which were used to restore the Territory track width.

More a re-bodied V8 Falcon than it was a V8 Territory IMHO.

My understanding is,
If it’s branded as off highway, you can’t use it in an emission regulated vehicle (eg 350 SBC/454 BBC with carb hot cams). Maybe permitted with LPG and cat converters.
If it’s an OEM replacement for a late model vehicle then it’s permitted provided all emission gear is hooked up, OEM harness and ecu, they normally just use a scan tool to check for fault codes…

The plugs are high up on the 5.4 3Vs, not near the exhausts…
Most of the old two piece spark plugs are gone now, the new single piece plugs are sturdy enough.

In the video posted above it certainly looks to be sitting on standard Territory alloy wheels.
