"Australia’s facing a lettuce shortage that’s led to soaring prices and even spurred global fast food giant KFC to put cabbage in its burgers.
The company notified customers that it will use a blend of lettuce and cabbage throughout its restaurants, citing supply chain disruptions after heavy flooding across the east coast wiped out much of the lettuce crop earlier in the year." https://www.smh.com.au/business/mark...07-p5arr8.html

At least they didnt market it as hipster slaw and add $2 to every burger.
The only reason McD did a McRib a few years back was due to a glut of below-cost pork on the market. Didnt stop them charging top dollar for it. |

They put so little lettuce on a burger anyway, they could have just left it off and nobody would have noticed.
I've sometimes wondered if all the state's franchises are sharing the one same lettuce supplied by head office. |

Shortly they will seek further economy by wrapping the chicken burger in pastry - not bread - before frying, and adding a few other vegetables.

As you said, they put so little lettuce on it anyway I couldn't tell the difference in taste. If anything, it gave the impression that that lettuce was fresh as it had a little more 'crunch' than usual. |

Message came through last week....pffft.... hot n spicy is available in Vic, who needs the rabbit food?
Also got a message from Guzman Y Gomez today, saying lettuce might be replaced with something that I can't remember the spelling of.

A few countries I travelled in sold Kebab looking things that used cabbage over lettuce and I didn't mind the difference.
Having said that. I would be happy to pay a bit extra for lettuce than have cabbage. I'm really worried for the direction we are heading... by Christmas this year many will be struggling to make ends meet. I'm also wondering how long it will be before we start to import (more) fresh fruit and vegetables. Even that may be off the cards with the cost of freight going through the roof.

The last 2 times I’ve gone to subway, the tomatoes were green, so I passed on them. Sounds like they get what they’re given.
