And when they make cars with this tech someone will make a ECU jumper to bypass it, its going to be just another electronic gizmo fitted to our already over gizmoed cars.

Just heard the other day they have come up with some sort of AI tech that can detect whether you are intoxicated by simply listening to your speech.

Now imagine if the EV detects you are intoxicated by simply listening in on your conversations and parks itself on the side.

Who would want a car like this? Parents with sons and daughters hitting the roads for the first time might be keen.

Easily defeated by voiding warranty and/or road worthiness if it has been tampered with. It'll be manufacturers and hackers playing cat and mouse.

They already have that as a lock out for convicted DUI drivers. Not unlike a roadside RBT but in your car, it won't start if you're over the limit.

Have heard calls for those to be fitted to every car or to L and P platers......but that will never get up, apparently very expensive to maintain and keep calibrated, and of course the personal rights side of things. But with AI and "kill switch", easily done. Apparently its pretty accurate.

Government already allows you to use your Voice as ID when logging into their systems.

There are fines for tampering with catalytic converters, DPF filters, EGR, etc, but people still do it and are open about it on many forums, so it is already happening, with EGR, DPF delete, performance tunes, aftermarket parts etc, just for one example, I dont think you will find many Rangers with aftermarket rims that have not been tampered with, I would say the same would be for most other manufacturers vehicles out there, most just return to stock for warranty issues and roadworthy if needed, it has always been like that in the past and will be the same well into the future.

Like you say it will be a cat and mouse, "you make it, we will break it".

Its 1 thing to stop drunk drivers and dangerous drivers, but we all know its not going to stop there, they will have the means to stop you for any reason they want, they will be immobilising your car because you have not paid a parking fine, were late with your land rates, didn't pay your tax on time whatever the government wants to punish you for they now can.

I'm also very curious about how secure automotive systems are as well, I don't think they've had the same level of dramas the IT industry has had with cyber security issues.

The older ones didn't - my aunty has a heap of drink driving convictions and she used to get my little cousin to blow in it all the time.

Is it true that Ferrari currently has some sort of system to monitor for unapproved modifications? Thought I saw recently that they made smoke come out the exhaust if you tried to do something that they didn't approve, but wasn't sure if it was a hoax.

This is quite common in the UK, with the majority of vehicles parked outside.A lot of high end vehicles are nicked this way.Cloning the keys is very common & a lot tend to leave their keys on a hall way table.I have always had mine in Faraday bags.
