Sorry GK been caught up with stuff.
I reckon you have done everything right, can't wait to see the pics.
Its a simple mod but I reckon it makes a big improvement to any stock AU front, I like GlensAUII in gloss as well.

Thanks Daniel, I was well pleased with the result.

Bring your car over sometime, we'll do it together!

I've got plenty of sandpaper left and the wax and grease remover, the matt black engine enamel is what you'd need to bring though! It was Septone brand from SuperCheap, it worked a treat, as JC said it would.

I like the S3 grille the most of all the AU's. They especially look good when painted black.

Yep looks good!

Took the family to the zoo last week, spotted a S3 and I checked out the grille. The decision was made, it had to be black! LOL!

Good idea Daniel, the black looks a treat on the Sparkling Burgandy, we can do that on the same day as well if you like.

The product is SAAS pinstripe, I got mine from Autobarn, was about $8 for a 10m roll. Measure the gap (groove / trough / channel) on the side mouldings though, I think the 9mm stripe would be too wide, it comes in 7mm too. I think I used the 7mm, but now I'm not sure. I threw out the packet, still have the 9mm chrome packet unopened, so maybe it was the 9mm width I used!

Or paint it a darker black perhaps, or stop staring at the pic of mine! LOL!

I think mine actually is about the same colour as yours, it's probably because your car is such a brighter colour, that the red doesn't look as dark. Congo Green is pretty dark!

You need you use a plastic primer if your painting over plastic, it acts as an adhesion promoter.

I painted mine back in January, it had that faded greyish spottish colour to it, took out the grille, masking taped the logo with hobby knife, sanded and sprayed in gloss black. Came up alrite, I will post a pic laterer.

Yeah, looks really good in the flesh! The black certainly breaks up the colour on the front of the car nicely, too much Congo Green, and too shiny as well IMO!

I'm very happy with the job! If I have to do it again, I'll just give it a light rub again with the 1500, and voila! Wouldn't expect to for a while though, I used engine enamel not standard matt black.

That came up really well GK, nice work! I was having a look at my grille (well, whats left of it anyway :( ) and i swear it looks about the same colour, just not smooth like yours. But i had the 'honeycomb' grill from series 3 high series with the 'chrome' surround. What do people think of that one? Not a fan? Personally i liked it better than my standard grille, but was nothing compared to GK's! ;)

I liked your grille too! Is that chrome strip on the bonnet lid stuffed, and if not, is it being replaced? I thought I might like to see how it'd go on my SR! LOL!

This forum is bad (great) for ideas! LOL!

It is (or bloody better!) getting replaced the same way as i had it, so chrome and honeycomb, and i would rather keep it thanks! :nutsycuck

Unfortunatly the top chrome strip did cop it GK, as did the bonnett beneath it! But funnily enough, i dont think the grille itself was touched, from what i remember i think the Ford badge took the brunt of the hit. The grille fell off, and i think one of the screw/clip things behind it broke, but the front of it is fine. I will have a look at it tonight to confirm.

The product I used was self priming, but then again, it is engine enamel!

So far so good though!
