I have a bunch of pics from a friend who happened to have digi camera this morning. My computer is playing up, but it is pretty messy.
She was down there and rumours (I know how much everyone loves them) that the body is in fact of the cafe owner, since his car was parked out back.

Apparently one of the cafe stools was blown across the street into another building and it looks very messy but she couldn't get an angle for a pic
.
I think I'll have to avoid the city on the way home as it might not be cleared up til later.

MAN'S BODY FOUND AT BLAST SITE

02may06

THE body of a man has been found in an Adelaide cafe destroyed in an explosion early today.

Police said the body was located at the back of the cafe following a search of the premises.

Emergency services spent several hours searching the Pirie Street building, which houses the cafe and two other businesses in the city centre, after the man's vehicle was located nearby shortly after the 3am blast.

A police spokesman said the body was yet to be formally identified but was believed to be that of the missing man.

"A short time ago the body of a middle-aged man was located at the back of the premises.

"This brings to a conclusion the tragic circumstances for the family," South Australian police Superintendent Paul Schramm told reporters at the scene.

A post-mortem examination will be held tomorrow.

The blast blew out the front and rear sections of the building and caused a major section of wall to collapse.

It also showered debris across the street and damaged a second building.

Interesting news at hand.... they've ruled out a gas explosion and said it was more likely to be petrol?!??! Would need a lotta petrol to blow a building open like that. Also, the guy's keys were still in his car whilst he was inside??

Police have now escorted demolition equipment to the scene. Looks like they're preparing to knock the remains over.

On the news tonight they said maybe an arson attempt gone wrong maybe

But to do that damage it seems a lot more than that, unless there was something else in there that was volatile

The news this morning indicated that although the Cafe owner was a well liked and good bloke. He also had a fair few debts and was on the brink of going under.

Add's a twist there.

As for the petrol cans they found, that's freaky if they were the cause. I didn't hear of any actual fire, just the boom

Wouldnt take much petrol to cause such an explosion once its vapourised. Some of you may remember a massive expolsion in the CBD of Morwell in the early 90's, it caused massive damage and it later came out that it was set off with only 10lt of petrol because the arsonist knew what he was doing.
