Hooked into a lawn and solid hedge yesterday afternoon with Crash Bunny. Done by 6PM, everything binned/bagged, owner messaged this morning to say how pleased they were with the result. You could tell the gratitude was sincere, it’s a nice thing.

Another “dead wood” workshop job being steadily reactivated. Hoping it’s out before late November but a sender has been lost by the machine shop. Not a big deal as it’s a small, top-mounted part, but likely needed from OS.

As they say, good to put a face to a name. Not exactly the hookup that Tonz was implying but a decent natterfest and worthwhile venue.

A guy was selling various XB XCparts on market place, $20 $50 $100.
Nothing I really needed, couldn't justify buying stuff. Anyway, suddenly it's $1. I confirmed with him, yes$1 , moving house, has to go. Got a very nice clean pair of kick panels, $1, a pair of bonnet hinges, $1 and a NIB master cylinder $1. I missed some other stuff, already sold unfortunately. I gave him a fifty, he was appreciative.

Yesterday (2nd /Mo vember/2024) I installed these bad boys to my TRD Aurion. Man. These are frickin insane! Just buy them if you don't want an ugly light bar option.
Pro's: they are that bright that, oncoming street signs: speed zone signs, chevrons etc are reflected back at a blinding intensity forcing low beam to be used. It's like another car is coming the other way on high beam. Dazzling. The distance of the beams is ample. The spread of beam is outstanding. The ignite time of the LED's is instantaneous. Cons: They didn't fit. I Had to modify the base, in my case HB3, as the 'locating tabs' weren't exactly correct. One Stanley knife, and two o'ring's to the rescue. After I made them fit, they were loose in the headlight. Simply by adding an extra o'ring to the base of the globes tightening up the fit in the headlight socket. My recommendations:If you want a cheap, brilliant white light high beam that will boil the billy at 500 metres, these are what you need.I watched a guy in the states that has a dedicated YouTube channel testing headlight globes. These rated 2nd for longevity, light output, whiteness of light and spread and distance of the beams. Just on a side note, for the low beam upgrade, the previous owner fitted JW Speaker LED globes, and these to are an excellent non factory replacement choice. Super bright without annoying oncoming traffic. Very good illumination of the left hand side of the road, wildlife potholes etc. The 2nd thing that made me feel good: went up into the hills late last night to do some hot laps through the 'Gorge'. Wow, there was a few cars up there.. one of them being a GR Yaris. Like someone said earlier: just because you have the car, doesn't mean you know how to drive it. I nearly ran into the back of him on 3 occasions, then ended up pulling out and dusting him on a short straight. Wow, not bad for a taxi (My TRD that is). So here I was thinking I was all that.. when along comes a Nissan Bluebird series II. The uglier square back one. Man, did I get severely spanked by this guy! Not only in a straight line, but within 2 corners (at night obviously) I couldn't see his tail lights. He was quick.. using one side of the road as you do... My car handles well. But it is what it is. A taxi with a blower and shock / spring package. Good thing... just note a 'great thing'. Seems like the older I get the faster I was. When I was riding my R1 through the Gorge, I used to do lap after lap for years learning every: entry / exit / apex and braking reference points. I new exactly what speed and what gear to be in, for any given corner. For example.. heading towards the Gorge car park (traveling towards Adelaide) I would wind out to 210 on the straight, click back to 4th, roll on through the car park corners at 185 - 190 kays an hour. Day or night. Didn't matter. I knew the road better than the back of my gland... A couple of feral goats on the road one summers night back in the day stopped me doing this at night. Was the best thing.. hot as buggery in the city. 10 degrees colder up in the hills, at night, no traffic. Purr-fect! Self preservation is a good thing! Cheers, One Man.

Encountering one of the city’s better drivers. I made the unforced error of not double-checking at a filtered intersection and turned into the path of an oncoming car. Luckily they saw me and had the presence of mind to brake firmly while I accelerated clear.
100% my fault and I’m grateful it didn’t result in a crash or even closer call. Oh, what a feeling! |

Sort of a bittersweet feeling of good today.... It marks 12 months since my last imbibement of firewater.
Makes it that little bit more challenging when I have a reasonably fine selection of delicious hooches sitting patiently in my liquor cabinet, eyeing me seductively every time I wander past... Cheers, Tony |
