Looks like that Magna has the 163 kW engine too.

Who remembers the ho-ha over the VY Commodore getting "magna taillights" back in the day?

Was a Mini ute ever sold? Not that I’ve seen one (recently?) - just wondering if I ever did.

yes they were built, but never sold here, a number have been created here using vans, the real ones had a roof gutter across the back of the cab, most van conversions didn't bother replicating the gutter, so that is a good tell tail of a conversion, of course some real ones have been imported over the years, but they are rare here

When I sold my 2010 G6ET last year I put top dollar on it. I knew that I needed the right buyer but I also knew that I could almost guarantee there wasn’t another in the country for sale that was as clean with zero modifications. It had 60,000km from memory. The first person that looked at it bought it for $36500. I think I had it up for three weeks or so but man I had some ridiculous low balls and crazy swap offers.
Funny you should mention that. I loved the pics you took this much -

Not just a "Safari wagon". It looks like a V8 model Safari, very rare even in the 1960s.

Got my wheels reconditioned at Wheel Worx at Richmond. In the show room the owner Joe, has his pretty mint 1969 ZA Fairlane sporting a 460 cuber, FMX and 9 inch. Asked him to tell me about it. Tells me he has owned it for a long time (20+ years i think he said) and got the running gear out of an XB GT, as the 'fairy' was a roller when he purchased it.
Enjoy..

Cheers,

As much as I loved my polynesian green ED classic that I bought instead, I still rue that missed opportunity.
ED Classic is a great package at any rate - those mint 10 spoke alloys! We had a white GLi Classic, what a wonderful car it was. We negotiated on an EF in the yard on a blistering Perth 42 degree day surrounded by concrete, that fell through (sold out from under us) and I'm so glad we went for the ED. There were ED XR6s there at the time but they were 19K which was above our 13K budget. First proper family car with 2 kids back in 2000.

The ED Sprint is a different beast, and has the good parts of the design - attractive, lots of glass area, wide open dash, good ride/handling balance. Then it got the go kart and hot-up treatment... If I saw a mint original ED Classic wagon today, I'd be tempted.

You can still get EB and ED XR6 at reasonable money, it's not too late!

The stretched XH - that would have been an ex-ambulance?

In the 90s VS utes were stretched and converted into ambulances, maybe XHs were as well?

Not necessarily a car you don't see anymore, rather a car you don't see living in the country, the Lexus LC500 in boring basic silver. I love these because of the seemingly archaic naturally aspirated 5.0 V8. A BMW M8 would hose this thing all day long in any performance metric, but I know which one would put a smile on my dial every single time.

Can't stand those BMW 4.4 engines.
