Extraordinary times. I was estimating that we (Australia) were generally five years behind the United States of America. I now believe that that gap is closing. I am aware that there are people I know who effectively vote for Trumpism in Australia. |

Who defines social media? Given that GovCo has laws restricting sex, alcohol & drug use, all of which seem to be largely ineffective with teenagers, what do they hope to achieve by limiting access to social media? And how? What do you consider "Trumpism" to be?

Why do you think they are doing that? Do you believe the government actually want to protect vulnerable children? Or is it more likely they want everyone to register for a digital id? |

At a minimum its an excellent trial run, but considering Govco can effectively pull the plug whenever....

Yes, we are governed by politicians, which affects everyone, but this site is not the platform for political discussions.
As per the AFF Terms & Conditions (in part): The site is provided mainly for the benefit of those wishing to discuss vehicle related matters (not exclusively Ford ones) but an area is provided (called the BAR) for other non automotive related discussion that is of general interest to the community. This is NOT a free for all area and posts that either don't meet the criteria listed below or which are deemed to be unduly trivial in nature may be removed at the discretion of the moderation team. In short, the following things are not permitted: 1. Posts about or containing references to: religion, race, politics, sensitive or controversial subjects except at the discretion of the admin team. 2. Posts that are (or could reasonably be considered to be): defamatory, threatening, invasive of privacy, or which otherwise violate any law applicable within Australia. 3. Posts that are disrespectful or insulting to another forum member. Remember that everyone is entitled to their opinion as long as it is expressed in a reasoned manner. Yes, I've allowed a bit go by as passing comments, but then when it starts to dominate discussions on multiple threads, I've got to remind everyone where the line is.

Well..... back on topic.
To set the background, I maintain a small rental fleet, cars, trucks & trailers. SO I find myself asking repeatedly, WHY IS IT That people cant hire something and return it in similar condition that they recieved it? IE: Panel/other damage (Why are you charging me the insurance fee? I didnt do any damage) Fuel tank not full (why are you charging me extra for this?) Missing components (spare tyres, jack/tools, wheel chocks..... why are you charging me?) Disconnected components (Customer disconnected electric brake unit on a trailer despite instructions on a label ON THE DRAWBAR on how to disable the electric brake controller via the units APP) Deliberate abuse (Customer put a close to 3500kg load on a car trailer clearly labelled as bring rated to 2300kg carrying capacity, then raised hell when they got charged for repairs) DIY repairs (Many, MANY instances of things like wheel bearings being replaced by customers who have NFI what they're doing and managing to do damage through not knowing what theyre doing) *sigh*

Unfortunately it comes with the territory when dealing with the public.
They're either stupid or just plain ignorant. Besides, if you hire something you can do whatever you want to it because it's not yours, isn't that the rule. Like, hire cars go faster in reverse than your car etc.

No nostalgia for that stuff, or Nescafe Blend 43. Both are dirt in a cup.

I weaned myself down to one coffee a day, several years ago. It means no caffeine withdrawal headache if I miss it. And less occasions of drinking “dirt in a cup” - with lower rates of consumption, one can afford ground coffee.

I stopped making decent coffee at home because I was always in a rush and never got to enjoy making or consuming it. But with the extra time on my hands, I've been making it and enjoying again.

…we seem to be experiencing a rise in post-accident peasantry, where people get out of their vehicles exactly at the place of colliding, and want to argue the toss? Yes, insurers push this line in some other countries (particularly Eastern Europe and possibly south-east Asia) but here it’s borderline obstruction. Note Australian Road Rule 125 (1), enacted or equivalent existing in most states.

And any cop attending will block another lane too.
And then (at least here in SA) we are obliged to crawl past at 25kmh. As I get older I get more ticked off with minor bingles clearly due to inattention making me late or keeping me in traffic I never want to be in. Watch what you are doing, you'll get home faster too. |

In Costa Rica, it’s actually illegal to move a vehicles involved in an accident (even minor) until transit police have arrived. And if it’s a rental, you also need to wait for their insurance rep to arrive..
Creates absolute bedlam in San Jose, believe me!

Must have jinxed myself, encountered another one today - moderate speed three car sandwich where they seemed to be having a marvellous chatfest, wholly oblivious to the fact they were blocking a single lane arterial road. All it needed was a jumping castle and a food van or two.
