Default The EA is fixed!

Yay. The EA is back! It did the headgasket early in the week. That's what was the cause of my major oil leak. I got it back today and I'm loving how smooth the engine is running. It also looks mint because they steam cleaned the whole engine bay.

The mechanics confirmed my suspicion that it was still running the original head gasket. 225,000 out of one head gasket, in an EA, is a fairly decent run. Hopefully I get the same out of the new gasket. All up it cost $550 and took about 2 days of work. The only hiccup I found was that on the drive home, the low coolant light came on. I checked it out, and there wasn't much there at all. They must have forgotten to put more in, so I topped it up. Now everything is great. The EA now has a new lease on life and should hopefully last me many more years!

Good stuff mate

Regarding the low coolant, your temp gauge didn't happen to climb at all?

Not at all. It was sitting on the 1/4 mark, as per usual.

It was. There was a little bit in there, just not anywhere near enough.

the coolant drop was probly just because they didnt bleed the system properly and there were some air bubbles and they came up and the coolant level dropped.

Actually that wouldn't surprise me. Someone else also said that to me today.

In a way it's a relief having got that out of way. Driving an EA, I always expected it would blow a head gasket at some stage of it's life. At least now, I can stop worrying because it should be many years before it blows another one. The mechanic was certainly impressed that it lasted that long!
